I’d like to add my new single to the community page, and I notice with others they’ve inserted into their post a Spotify “Preview” that plays a segment of their song. I’m not super-well-versed in such things, and having searched around on Spotify and the Google machine, I still don’t know how to make one of those Spotify Previews and insert into my submission. If anybody can give me a tip on how to create one, I’d appreciate it.
in forum: Music DiscussionLang Owen here – I write songs about something that seems like nothing but feels like everything. I’m based in Columbia, SC and write straight out of the 1970s singer-songwriter tradition, employing poetic lyrics to express the challenges and possibilities of the current day, often viewed through the perspective of individual’s imagined interior lives. My third album, Cosmic Checkout Lane, is about seeking out and living our wisdom at any moment, including standing in a grocery store checkout line. Cosmic Checkout Lane comes out April 12, 2024 – it’s my second collaboration with musician/producer Todd Mathis....

in forum: Music DiscussionI’ve seen some real clunkers over the years. This is a place to collect the worst of the worst.
I’ll start with Tomorrowland 2024. It’s nearly impossible to read. With that many artists it’s tough to begin with, but you’ve got to remember that many of these designs were seen by several people with authority to say NO before it was made public and nobody stopped them.

And then Perpetual Groove using terrible AI art for their latest tour. Lots of jam bands seem to be using this kind of art. I’m guilty of course of posting AI art sometimes. But to my eyes, this is exceptionally bad.

Loin forum: Music DiscussionThis thread is for collecting concert posters that are cool. The performers themselves need not be relevant to the discussion of the art in this context.
I will start with this recent poster for Doom Flamingo doing 3 nights in Charleston. Made by Aaron Utterback who is a buddy and who has made several posters for Extra Chill over the years.
I really like the design at the bottom with the disco ball grid things that seem to be bouncing or sinking into the grid on the bottom. It just looks cool...

Share other posters you dig here and I will continue to share them too.
in reply to: Texas EclipseDude that’s a shit ton of performers! Are you going ? I heard Aggie is gonna be there with MeowWolf
in reply to: Developer LogNow:
Users can reply to topics that correspond to Extra Chill articles, or comment directly on the article itself
Users can upvote once on the blog and on the community site and the upvotes are combined
Still to do:
Fix spotify embed format for imported postsFix upvote count for first post in an imported topicSort by upvotes doesn’t work in the custom forum (yet)
Upvoted feed needs a complete re-work…
in reply to: Marry, F*ck, KillFuck Freebird, Marry Stairway, Kill WYWH
And I’m a big Floyd fan.
in reply to: Marry, F*ck, KillYou didn’t answer it yourself my ghuy
Marry “Wish You Were Here”
Fuck “Stairway to Heaven”
Kill “Freebird”
Reminds me of this great Modest Mouse live album. Around 3:18, someone yells “Freebird” in the audience and Issac Brock explains why MM will never play it. Lol
in reply to: Developer LogSometimes, simply writing about the issue helps me logically understand what needs to happen. I’m basically learning enough about the underlying logic behind the code to explain to ChatGPT how to make the code work for me. So, a lot of this has been brute repetition of figuring out the logic before I can explain to the robot exactly what it needs to do for me.
Anyway, upvotes are now seamless between the main blog and the Extra Chill Articles forum.

The next step is cleaning it up. But the hardest part is done. Sheesh! It’s like mental gymnastics trying to wrap my head around all this code sometimes. But it works!!!
in reply to: Developer LogI added the “Extra Chill Articles” forum which will automatically post articles from Extra Chill as they are published.
It creates an exact replica of the article (minus the ads). This part works great and the articles are being correctly synced.
The next step is combining the upvote counts, which has proven to be a bit trickier. The idea is that the user should be able to upvote an EC article, and its corresponding topic on the forum, one time each, with the total upvotes count reflecting...

I’m close to figuring it out but it has really been giving me a run for my money.
Then, after achieving that, the next step will be to allow community members to interact in the topics created, so anybody can essentially contribute to a given piece of content.
Of course, the ultimate idea is to lock the Extra Chill Articles forum so that you must be logged in to view it. Then, it will allow community members to read the articles without ads, and give us a further incentive to drive signups to the community.
The overall goal is to continue building a digital ecosystem that is completely seamless between the two websites, and turns Extra Chill into an entire world. Each step gets us closer and closer, and I have been working on this every day.
in forum: Music DiscussionIn addition to the thread for the Mondegreen festival itself. I figured it was time to start the thread for Phish general and ongoing discussion.
We’re entering into this grand discussion after 40 years of Phishstory. Again, there are many places to talk about Phish on the internet, but this one is ours.
The catalyst for this thread? a 40 minute “Chalk Dust Torture” played last night in Mexico. Of which I am currently listening to as I type this
in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?That was real nice. Have you ever heard of Daniel Norgren? Another chill Canadian
in forum: Music DiscussionFigure I’d put out the bat signal here for any fellow Extra Chill readers who will be making the pilgrimage to Delaware for the Phish festival in August. I’m in and I know @qrisg is in too. Some other Extra Chill folks who haven’t signed up yet will also be there…
Pretty excited, this will be my first time attending a Phish festival. I’m going to print some bumper stickers to hand out to people.

in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?Really is sounding dope. Love to see Kelly doing some HD quality shit like this. He needs a record deal, would allow him to fund an album and make a whole record worth of stuff that sounds like this
