Bio
Lang Owen works straight out of the 1970s singer-songwriter tradition, employing poetic lyrics to express the challenges and possibilities of the current day, often viewed through the perspective of individual's imagined interior lives. Lang released his third album, Cosmic Checkout Lane, April 12, 2024, his second collaboration with musician/producer Todd Mathis. “Cosmic Checkout Lane is about living our wisdom at any moment, including standing in a grocery store checkout line,” Lang says. Lang’s gift for seeing the world around him and dialoguing with others about their lives now informs his songwriting, which often takes the form of conversations between characters in his songs. “My experience teaches me that everybody has a distinctive, inspiring story. I hope my compassion and respect for that comes through in my songs.” Lang released his debut album Welcome To Yesterday in 2019, which South Carolina Music Writer Kevin Oliver hailed as “evocative storytelling at its finest.” The Post & Courier Free Times included Welcome to Yesterday on its “But What About THIS Album” list in their Best South Carolina Music 2019 edition. In 2022 Lang released his sophomore album, She’s My Memory, which the Free Times ranked sixth on its The Best of South Carolina Music 2022 list. Based in Columbia, SC, Lang has opened for notable Americana acts Jonathan Byrd, Wes Collins, and Kim Ware, played in multiple venues in North and South Carolina, and received airplay on radio stations in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and Luxembourg.
