In addition to the thread for the Mondegreen festival itself. I figured it was time to start the thread for Phish general and ongoing discussion.

We’re entering into this grand discussion after 40 years of Phishstory. Again, there are many places to talk about Phish on the internet, but this one is ours.

The catalyst for this thread? a 40 minute “Chalk Dust Torture” played last night in Mexico. Of which I am currently listening to as I type this

The preceding Blaze On is no slouch either. Kinda hilarious shift in gears dropping into CDT the way they did

@marleyfacedboy I’ll have to check that out. It’s incredible how good they still are 40 years into their career. Still managing to come up with unique ideas that get people talking

Saw this article about the Sphere that sounds awesome. Happening next weekend, really jelly of the people who get to witness this.

Also a new Phish album on the way. Lots of love and light in this new single, baby

Another interview with Trey about the Sphere, this one on video courtesy of Alternative Press

He says: “I love getting up in the morning and creatively thinking of another cool thing to blow people’s minds. I mean it’s like my favorite thing to do.”

I’m so jealous of anyone who will be in attendance at these shows. Trey seems really excited about it… it’s going to be incredible…. can’t wait to see what they came up with.

Phish’s new album, Evolve will be released on July 12th, just over one month before the Mondegreen Festival in Dover, DE.

They have released two singles from the album thus far, “Evolve” and “Oblivion”

One notable thing from this tracklist is that they are releasing a Phish version of “Lonely Trip,” a song that they played when @marleyfacedboy and I saw them on 12/29/22 at MSG, that I have loved ever since. Really looking forward to seeing what they do with this one in the studio. The song has already been released as the final track on the 2020 Trey Anastasio solo album of the same name.

I also wrote an essay about the meaning of “Lonely Trip” on the main blog, which includes a lyrical breakdown and some live recordings.

Looking forward to this album for sure.

    Evolve Tracklist
    1. Hey Stranger 4:47
    2. Oblivion 6:03
    3. Evolve 4:12
    4. A Wave Of Hope 5:04
    5. Pillow Jets 5:57
    6. Lonely Trip 6:00
    7. Life Saving Gun 4:25
    8. Monsters 5:15
    9. Ether Edge 4:06
    10. Human Nature 2:54
    11. Valdese 3:36
    12. The Well 4:30*
    13. Mercy 4:11

I’m working on an article about Phish Festivals in anticipation of Mondegreen this summer and I came across this amazing “Bathtub Gin” from the Great Went. Just wow.

This is shaping up to be one of the coolest articles I’ve written to date. Hopefully Big Hassle PR will agree and give me a media pass to Mondegreen so I can write an epic story about my experience and make my personal contribution to Phish lore.

Another one as I go down the rabbit hole of Phish festivals…

    Big Cypress “After Midnight”

Big Cypress is a rabbit hole in itself…

People on Phantasy Tour discuss “Green Dust” … lots of other crazy stories to be found from that weekend.

@chubes I’m really happy with the Lonely Trip re-record. Can’t wait for it to be added to the Mount Rushmore of great but unduly hated on Phish slow songs every time it gets played

@chubes also in my quest to defend that N3 Charleston ’19 show, we caught one of the only handful of After Midnights

@MarleyFacedBoy dude yeah i haven’t had a chance to get through the whole new album yet (Phish new album Evolve, out today), but I just listened to that “Lonely Trip” a few times. Sounds awesome.

I think a lot of Phish fans just want their face melted the whole show lol. Lonely Trip is a great song.

    RE: n3 Charleston 2019

Honestly I don’t even remember hearing that. I will have to go back and check out that show again. That was so early in my Phish loving career that I didn’t really know what I was hearing. I do know that of all the Phish shows I’ve seen, that one is the weakest. Followed by MSG 12/28/22, which I wouldn’t call exceptionally weak, but compared to the madness of the following night…

Maybe I will review the new Phish album in the Music Reviews section next week. (UPDATE: here is my review of Evolve)

Phish Tiny Desk concert dropped today

    SET LIST

    “Sigma Oasis”
    “Evolve”
    “You Enjoy Myself”

    Encore

    “Sample in a Jar”
    “Chalk Dust Torture”

For the intro to YEM they brought out Tiny Trampolines. Pretty silly. I love how they played YEM plus an encore at a Tiny Desk. Someone also pointed out how its the longest Tiny Desk of all time.

I think Phish loves YEM as much as Phish fans love YEM.

Summer Tour kicked off last night… “Hey Stranger” from the new album

It takes a while to “get” Phish. But once you do, there is no turning back.

    7/27/24 – 40 minute “Simple”

    7/30/24 – 40 minute “Tweezer”

And also, because today is the 1 year anniversary of the Phish show at Madison Square Garden on 8/1/23. Here’s that whole show, courtesy of Phish archive on YouTube.
