They were great at Boogieman last year. Was my first experience with them, and a standout among a lineup of really great performers.

SteveAycockPhotoYour Chas' local photog.Rank: PuddlePoints: 42The main competition table was setup with multiple identical laptops provided by one of the sponsors, a company that builds workstations.
There was definitely a LAN Party vibe to it. The first few rounds, folks were pretty relaxed but by the end as the stakes got higher and people were being eliminated you could see that people were starting to get a little anxious. The prize was a cool $5K plus extras so when it came down the wire the feel of “competition” became more evident.
At the end, when the winner was announced, the 2nd place guy was very gracious… and no one exhibited anything negative at all.
There was a sort of ‘sports’ feel going on as well… which continued through the interviewing of the winner at the end.
Really fun event and a mind blowing studio space.

Yeah, I expect so. Hoping to get my Son to let me do a recording of him doing one of his originals soon – that might be my first try with the nicer microphone.
My website is getting some attention after this show – not blowing up exactly, but more traffic than usual by a margin. My semi-accurate estimate is about 30-40 viewers a day since Sat. Each person is actually looking at almost all of the photos tho’… most of the time people only scan the gallery kinda quick and only actually open a few photos, so that is in a way a pretty big difference.
Was a fuckin’ excellent show. Gonna be hard to top that experience anytime soon.

Syncing the video and the sound “should” be fairly easy. I’ve done this before on a different type of project.
I DID buy a high end mic that attaches to my camera! The camera itself has pretty good audio capability in regard to the format/bit-rate -and while the stero mics are impressive for something built in, having an external pro-level mic is obviously preferred. It’s sitting in my camera bag… will break it out for the next show I shoot!
People at the PoHo have the link to my website – I have to assume they’re aware of the videos. 🙂
I sent along links to Kev’, John, Frasco, etc… I “think” they’ve seen the video but I can’t be sure.

SteveAycockPhotoYour Chas' local photog.Rank: PuddlePoints: 42MAY 21st at the Charleston Pour House we’ll see the return of the American psychobilly trio, Rev. Horton heat. I got to photograph them back in October of 2019. You can see me experimenting with the ever popular for concert photography ‘Star filter’ in these. Done right it’s fantastic… overdone, it’s corny. I may have baked some of these too long… but hey, all in good fun.
A great show by some very remarkably talented and experienced musicians. Worth it in the spades to see Mr. Heath play the hell out of his guitar!!
I’m signed up to shoot that night, so if you make it out, say hi !!

I was fortunate to be able to photograph Maggie Koerner at the Charleston Pourhouse back in 2019, when she opened, for another favorite, Tank and the Bangas. Recently, I’ve been going back through shoots I’ve done in the past, and attempting to apply new methods of editing to my images… as both my ability and the software has improved over the years, allowing me to get ‘more’ from even those older images.
I’ll add the link for that at the bottom if you care to poke around… but definitely check out Maggie’s work. Her originals are really good and she nails down a few cover tunes as well. If you ever get the chance to see her live, don’t pass it up, she absolutely kills the stage show.
Her song, “Love Drug” (FF to 4:30) is probably my fave from this session, but for sure it’s all excellent. Get your face melted!

SteveAycockPhotoYour Chas' local photog.Rank: PuddlePoints: 42I have a few different playlists that I hit first thing when I get to work… but this is one that gets played a lot. I skip some of the songs sometimes, but it’s overall upbeat and sort of positive vibe helps me to get moving when faced with the Monday blues…
SteveAycockPhotoYour Chas' local photog.Rank: PuddlePoints: 42Reddit threads on Highwater this year, echo much of the same issues as the previous events. The artists and the music itself outside of our personal preferences is mostly just fine. I agree with Chris, that there should be more local representation, but was happy to see Babe Club got to be part of things.
The vast majority of complaints I’m seeing are all about poor planning, inadequate resources, high prices, lack of security and an information desert, for which people simply couldn’t get the information they needed.
I was feeling a little FOMO having not gone this year, but honestly, seeing photos and video clips, and not being a ‘huge’ fan of the lineup along with the weather goin’ kinda south on day 2, I don’t feel like I actually missed out on much other than the commaraderie with my fellow photogs in the pit… I do lament that a little.
I think Loserfest at the RA a few weeks back was probably a lot more fun.
SteveAycockPhotoYour Chas' local photog.Rank: PuddlePoints: 42If it turns out that you like the Gimp, and I think you will… one of the most powerful plugins, that adds just a ton of functionality is called G’mic… ostensibly “gimmick”.
Here’s an article explaining what it is, does, and how to get and use it.
I personally use this for creating montage/collage images for my photos, so that I can post multiple images in one, where otherwise it’s not easy to share more than one image at a time. You can see at least one example in my other thread here about the Jerkweed show last weekend.
