Mikayla is on her way here. How about we start by all listing off the sets we are most looking to see/cover? That way we can work out any conflicts in advance.

I think we can do an overall festival overview, in addition to my cultural narrative about the event and performers, and essentially publish two articles about the event.

Yeah, I’m just being silly about the Noah Kahan stuff. He isn’t that bad and I’m looking forward to his set. I just got sick of his voice.

Also the number one search term bringing people to this forum right now is “Noah Kahan sucks” and “Noah Kahan overrated” so I’ve been trying to capitalize on that.

Charleston favorites, Babe Club are back again with a new single, “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.” This comes in advance of their upcoming performance at High Water Festival. Word on the street is they’ve got a full band lined up for this performance and if you’re at High Water this year it’s in your best interests to catch Babe Club. The one band from within the local music scene on the lineup, aside from Shovels & Rope.

There’s also a video for this track on the way, featuring @qrisg of Extra Chill and more.

Vampire Weekend – “Peggy O” – Played last week on Sirius XM.

I’ve never really been a fan of Vampire Weekend  but I do love “Peggy O.” I know it’s not really a Dead song but they played it all the time and it’s one of my favorites.

Something about that VW sound, I still can’t really get on board even when they’re playing a song I love. I guess I don’t like the repetitive way they build songs nor do i really enjoy the tone of that acoustic guitar.

He’s wearing a String Cheese Incident t-shirt though

@sgmgmt i remember when that happened… his neighbor caught him on camera after he came home drunk one night. out on his front lawn hollering racial slurs.

i won’t embed that video here, but just in case anyone hasn’t seen it… TMZ has it here (censored): https://www.tmz.com/2021/02/02/morgan-wallen-n-word-nashville-neighbors/

absolutely mind-blowing to me how this guy is the biggest name in country music right now when there are so many amazing country singers and songwriters out there …

@kategtthomas I don’t know either. It seems like the more shit like this he does the more people eat it up. I doubt he will actually face the consequences of the three felonies he was charged with.

Here’s a Billboard article about the incident: https://www.billboard.com/business/legal/morgan-wallen-arrested-felony-throwing-chair-roof-nashville-bar-1235651239/

And a quote from that article:

“Wallen was arrested and booked just after midnight and charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, posting a $15,250 bond to secure his release around 3:30 a.m. The incident came just days after Wallen kicked off his 2024 One Night at a Time tour. The singer’s next court date in the incident is May 3rd; he is slated to play Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on May 2nd and 3rd.”

Will he perform at those shows? I’d say probably.

Another one, Skull & Roses at the Ventura Fairgrounds. The location of the famous Grateful Dead concert 8/27/72 aka Sunshine Daydream. This is especially fucked up considering they aren’t doing refunds.

This email essentially says, hey, it’s 10 days out from the festival and we have no money left so uhh… sorry but the event is canceled.

    in reply to: Texas Eclipse

Damn, they really hyped up the news about it on social media. I hadn’t taken the time to look into it and just saw tornados, hazardous weather conditions at Texas Eclipse, Fyre 2.0, and that’s what stuck in my mind.

Sucks that someone died. Running out of water is definitely a big problem at an event of that size.

For those who missed this news cycle:

I think this might be the post I saw, Reddit via Stereogum

This is the post the fesitval made about the cancellation, via Festive Owl. Wild times we’re living in but good on FestiveOwl for not feeding into the “Fyre 2.0” hype

Thank you @moldy for posting a recap

His new EP came out last week and I’ve been listening to it a bunch. I stand by what I said, this dude is going to blow up. Just wait for the full-length album in about 1-2 years… Also an independent artist. Full send on this guy from me.
