    Day two

Wow, what a crazy night! I’m sitting here in the rain on Saturday morning with two more nights ahead of me.

They played two sets last night, and near the end of the second one Trey told the crowd not to go back to their campsites after the set. Then they returned for a full ambient jam with incredible HD lighting effects on a streaming screen that hung in front of the stage.

really great show through and through. Never seen so many spun wooks in my life. Going to the bathroom after Fluffhead meant wading through the sea of wooks, who were busy gathering the pieces of their minds. Myself included.

Back at the campsite we stayed up all night laughing our asses off and talking about life and Phish. Around 3am a wook walked by our campsite very slowly and stopped a couple cars down. He was silent for a moment, and then he hollered, at nobody in particular, “bump of coke for a balloon!”

lol. Some of the people here are sketchy and way too spun. Lots of people with kids which is a questionable decision based on what i’ve witnessed so far at this festival.

hope the rain stops soon because we didn’t really prepare ourselves for this situation at our campsite.

    day one

first day of music in the books. I am a slime ball already. The show last night was pretty amazing, especially the second set.

It was overwhelming at first for me, when the band started playing. The sheer scale of this event and the massive amount of people in that field was a lot to take in. I guess i didn’t really know what i was getting myself into with the concept of a Phish festival.

by the time the second set started i had cooled down, and felt like i had found my footing. @marleyfacedboy and i found a much more chill location and found our groove.

    the music

the first set felt like a back to back hits warmup set. I liked it, but the second set was where i personally found the groove and became comfortable inside this wild vessel that is Phish Mondegreen

We stood in line for water during almost the entirety of “what’s going through your mind” which is pretty ridiculous. The lines to get water are really not cool at all. It seems classic at this point for festivals to fuck over attendees in this way to sell more water. I thought Phish would be above that but apparently not.

the meat of the set for me came for the segment between “Light” and “Prince Caspian”. “Light” descended deep into a dark, chaotic jam, down, down, down… until they landed smoothly in “Prince Caspian” for a moment of triumph.

“crosseyed and painless” was a party and then they went into “lonely trip”. The ballad was sweetly sung and i think it will sound nice on a relisten for sure.

“Everything’s Right” was a ton of fun and whole encore was epic. Overall it was a great first day and my first ever Phish festival show.

very happy to be here. Very glad that there are still 3 more days of music. It’s time to eat some pancakes and get ready for another day.

Arrival – we showed up early yesterday and hit the box office not long after they opened. we ended up camping in Pod 2, with camp set up by noon or so.

i have to say that this was the most well-organized festival entrance i’ve experienced in my life so far. maybe it was because we got in early, but everything seems very well thought-out. We experienced very little BS or confusion coming in.

Overall, this festival has a similar feel to Bonnaroo, in terms of camp setup and vibe. The difference is that everyone is here for the same band. Which means that everyone already has something in common.

the fact that something is Phish is pretty dope

The venue opens today at 12pm. Me and @marleyfacedboy are gonna head in there and check it out when it does.

Beer prices are ridiculous, as to be expected. $16 – $18 a pop. However we can drink as much as we want at camp from our coolers.

music starts today at 6:30pm. Two sets of Phish in Delaware!

very exciting times here at the ‘Green

The week is finally upon us! While this forum thread may not have had the action I was hoping for over the past few months, I am excited to make my trek up north to partake in Mondegreen. There is a good chance that I will post thoughts in this thread throughout the festival. Maybe I’ll meet some folks who will also join us here!

I am bringing close to 500 Extra Chill stickers to hand out to people at the festival.

Hey Don, thanks for joining the community and sharing your music! This is the kind of detail we love to see, it gives people context on you as an artist.

Overall digging the sound so far. Good country vibes. Looking forward to the album release!

“Murders in this Town” will be on our community radar playlist for the next update. Which will probably be next week.

Hope you have a dope weekend! Cheers

Here we go, “Everything’s Right” with Billy Strings. I have been enjoying this song lately and I also happen to love Billy Strings. Glad to see this collaboration, and also can’t wait for Mondegreen.

I have an interview coming out next week with PHILM who runs the Instagram account @phishonphilm. Will be putting it out before I skip town.

Billy Strings joined Phish tonight, 8/6/24 in Grand Rapids.  I’ll come back and share the recording as soon as I am able to dig it up. In the meantime, enjoy this set recap from FZappa20. Guy watches every Phish show and gives the full postgame rundown on a whiteboard.

Get to know the artists on the Extra Chill Fest 2024 lineup! We’ve been documenting these artists on the blog, here are some links to recent places to learn more.

    Meredith Foster Interview

Curator of the intimate Dear Dive Bar series in downtown Charleston, Meredith Foster sings heartfelt country songs and will perform on the deck stage with a full band.

    Slow Funeral Interview

Slow Funeral rips. Mary Norris is a great songwriter who is coming into her own as an artist. This is one of the sets that I am personally most excited about.

A Guide to Hip Hop at Extra Chill Fest 2024

    @indigxld
breaks down what we can expect from the hip-hop lineup at this year’s Extra Chill Fest! South Carolina hip-hop, hand curated and guaranteed to be dope. He breaks down JTrawww, UnHeard Entertainment, and the GranDaddi Caddi Experience.

    Hellacious Sauce

Featuring Gavin Hamilton and @indigxld. This set is a soulful concoction that is another one of my personal most anticipated sets. Gavin and Indi are both excellent singers, and they have been practicing a unique collection of songs for their debut at Extra Chill Fest.

    Dear Blanca

Columbia, SC band Dear Blanca will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their album Pobrecito to headline Extra Chill Fest 2024. They’re bringing along a cast of Columbia’s finest including members of Stagbriar. Not to mention, Charleston’s very own musical hero, Brett Nash.

    Maxwell’s Silver Jammer

The Beatles Jam band by Andy Greenberg will close out the festival with a late night set on the main stage. Going to be sick!

I’ve been bumping these new MJ Lenderman songs tonight. Shit is really good, just like his other music. Marking the new album Manning Fireworks down for a review in the music reviews section when it drops on September 6th.

For now, here are the three singles released thus far. Really great alt-country vibes
