Up, and then down again. What a ride. Sold at 70 for a quick buck, waiting to hop back in.

in reply to: My Morning JacketSeptember tour dates include a stop in Charleston. Pairing with Nataniel Ratliffe & The Night Sweats. Some people find that to be an odd pairing, which it admittedly is, but I dig Nathaniel and I’ll be glad to catch him too.
Some people were also saying on Reddit that they wish MMJ would take a break from the road and let the momentum build up again. That I don’t necessarily agree with, because I think the band is fresh off the hottest summer tour possibly of their entire career so far.

Hopefully they can continue to pack heaters come Fall.

Saw Sheryl Crow in September, she was insane!! 62 years old and still got it!
Wow I did not know she was 62! Alanis is only 49… she was 21 when Jagged Little Pill came out. Youngest Artist (at the time) to win artist of the year at the Grammys according to her Wiki
in forum: Music DiscussionMy buddy @qrisg put me on to JJ Cale last year and I’ve become a big fan ever since. He wrote a couple of songs that Eric Clapton later made famous including “Cocaine” and “After Midnight.” Jerry G also played “After Midnight.” He also wrote songs that Widespread Panic & Billy Strings made jam band famous like “Ride Me High,” and some others you’re sure to recognize.

This is place to discuss JJ Cale and share his music. Songs he wrote that other artists covered are fair game here too. Because why not?

If you haven’t listened to him, you’ve obviously gotta start with the originals of “After Midnight” and “Cocaine.” And then, check out the whole Naturally album. If you’re not a fan after that, there’s just no hope for you.
in forum: Music DiscussionNeil Young is an artist who gets covered a whole lot. He has written so many great songs and a lot of artists recognize that and perform them. I wanted to start an ongoing place to share excellent covers of Neil Young songs.
“Harvest Moon” in particular is one that everybody plays. I’ll start with one I just came across from Sierra Ferrell. She is just too cool.
in forum: Music DiscussionThere’s something about outlaw country that hits just right. I’m a big fan of music that sounds like it was written by a dirty traveler with a busted guitar and a jug of whiskey. I think a lot of other people are too, hence why this genre has made a resurgence in recent years.
“The Road Goes on Forever” by the Highwaymen (but written by Robert Earl Keen) is one such song. Hang around a fire and crush some beers to this one and you’ll be right there with these guys. Johnny Cash, Waylon...

in forum: Music DiscussionInspired by Extra Chill’s upcoming show at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC on April 5th – I present to you: ALANIS MORISSETTE VS. SHERYL CROW !!!
Personally, I’m more of an Alanis guy myself, but I saw Sheryl Crow at Bonnaroo 2018 and it was amazing.
I’ll start this battle off Alanis doing “Hand In My Pocket” & “You Oughta Know” live at Masters of Music 1996, notably joined by the late great Taylor Hawkins on drums. This was a pretty famous concert which had a lot of other big names...

The two pioneered the genre of lofi hip hop. Donuts & Luv(sic) Hexalogy are both in my personal top 5 albums of all time. The influence they’ve had on music even just beyond hip hop is undeniable- with jazz players crediting their visions of time to Dilla and composers of all genres looking back to Nujabes for guidance. Although the two passed tragically young, they live on through their own music and through the music of others.
RIP J Dilla (February 7th, 1974 – February 10th, 2006)
RIP Nujabes (February 7th, 1974 – February 26th, 2010)

in reply to: Best 2000s Pop-Punk/Emo MusicYeah! Big Brand New Fan here!
How about the Taking Back Sunday counterpart to “Seventy Times Seven” … “There’s No ‘I’ In Team”
Did you know that these bands had a beef?
in reply to: Best 2000s Pop-Punk/Emo MusicI’m so game for this topic. “Ocean Avenue” is also a nostalgic favorite of mine, but I’m going to start with some big heat.
Speaking of artists that got cancelled…
I present, “Seventy Times Seven” by Brand New
in forum: Music DiscussionI spoke with Jeff Gorman of Illiterate Light this afternoon about their latest projects and songwriting efforts. They just released a new EP on Friday called Slow Down Time and it’s got a lot of Neil Young vibes, specifically on the guitar tone and playing style. The group has a whole Neil Young arc going on considering they’ve been playing “Vampire Blues” off On The Beach live since at least 2018.

All of their recent projects are interesting but this one has a really nuanced feel to it that is different from most of their other material. I dig it.
I’ll have a full interview with Jeff published on the blog before their upcoming show at the Charleston Pour House on April 12th with the Simplicity.
