There’s a weird and highly divisive energy that looms over the various communities of black entertainers in Charleston. However, I have seen and am currently a part of a community that embraces the concept of unity and communication-so I KNOW it exists.
Charleston developed and molded everything I have created as and through ‘Indi’Gxld’ for going on 9 years. I’m thankful and honored to be in a place where I can build myself and ATTEMPT to build others by bridging gaps.
Maaan I pray peace over ya’ll but I’m pulling up on 10 years here and certain dynamics are starting to make sense. I truly understand why certain cycles that continue over and over again amongst black creatives exist. It’s time for change, we gotta get off front street and just keep elevating the game for Charleston which creates more lanes for ourselves and our PEOPLE. This shit bigger than YOU! ME! US! There’s MILLIONS of people doing what you do! Be one that creates influence, opportunities, and represents the excellence of whatever your creative locomotive is. All that other bullslizen is for the birds man.
With love,
Indi

in reply to: Chromakopiain reply to: Sunhouse – Greenville, SC (Indie Rock)Saw you guys at Royal the other night! Didn’t have a chance to say what up but I enjoyed the show.
Nice job, I also enjoyed the cover of “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”.
Fun fact I was a huge Brand New fan back in the day, and the song “Millstone” on their third album has a nod to the Smiths with the lyric “Take me out tonight”
Thanks for joining the community! Cheers

Tyler the Creator released “Chromakopia” last week and it’s arguably one of, if not THE best project of his career. The production, songwriting, arrangements, ridiculous features, etc mixed with Tyler’s brashly honest and sometimes graphic lyricism was *chef’s kiss*.
However, Taylor Swift fans have taken to social media to express their discontent with Tyler. The controversy primarily revolves around certain lyrics and themes that some fans perceive as harmful or offensive in songs “Hey Jane” and “Judge Judy”.
‘Swifties’ argue that Tyler’s content includes misogynistic undertones and promotes a negative portrayal of women. This backlash has sparked a larger conversation about accountability in music and the expectations placed on artists to align with socially conscious narratives.
However, the not only fans of Tyler, but the hip hop community itself-finds the attempt to “cancel” Tyler to be misguided, especially considering his journey as an artist and the way he has evolved over the years. Tyler has openly discussed his past, acknowledging his earlier problematic behavior, and has demonstrated significant growth in both his music and personal philosophy.
Fans argue that attempting to silence him contradicts the very essence of artistic expression and the idea of redemption. Furthermore, Tyler has always represented a unique voice in the music industry, advocating for individuality and the freedom to explore complex, sometimes uncomfortable themes. Cancel culture, in this context, risks stifling the diversity of perspectives in music and undermining the progress that comes from open dialogue and understanding.
While some Swifties may feel justified in their outrage, it is essential to consider the broader implications of their actions and recognize the importance of allowing artists the space to express their thoughts, even if they provoke discomfort.
It’s essential for people to understand the purpose and the plot.
Chill out!
in forum: Music DiscussionRest in Peace to Phil Lesh, bassist and founding member of the Grateful Dead.
3/15/40 to 10/25/24
Phil was the man and loved by many.
The jam band world honored him greatly, playing his songs, and celebrating his life in the days following his passing. Many performed his song, “Box of Rain” in his honor.
This is a place to collect Phil Lesh tributes, moments, and memories.
I’ll start with some tributes.
Phish – “Box of Rain” (Albany, NY 10/25/24)

It is a rarity for Phish to play a Grateful Dead song. Phil was a good friend of Trey Anastasio’s.
The Bobby Weir Incident – “Box of Rain” (Hulaween, 10/27/24)
String Cheese Incident performed with Bob Weir, another founding member of the Grateful Dead, on Sunday evening at Hulaween.
Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country – “Box of Rain” (Brooklyn, NY 10/25/24)
Daniel played with Phil Lesh & Friends a lot during his final years.
Greensky Bluegrass – “Broken Arrow” (Charleston, SC 10/31/24)
A cover of the Robbie Robertson song “Broken Arrow”, which Phil Lesh sang lead on with the Dead in 1993. This was in the encore.
Goose – “Brokedown Palace” (Winston Salem, NC 10/25/24)
Goose also performed Dead favorites “Cold Rain and Snow” and “Turn On Your Lovelight” that night in honor of Phil.

Benny the Butcher beef is interesting to me because they have a track together.
Do you think he’s going to make a big comeback?
Here’s the album, btw.
