DJ Brownie shows were sick. Check it out:

Also DJ Brownie had a really sick premier of a new track. Don’t know the song but I really enjoyed it. The lyrics throughout were “Dance Floor Be Your Stage,” Maybe that’s the name? Don’t know but it’s a good trance / house track for sure

Friends of Jerry are (mostly) a dead cover band who do an exceptional job at recreating the acid test vibe – with similar lighting and projections as you may have seen had you been hangin’ with Kesey and the boys (and Mountain Girl) back in ’68 in the Haight. This should be an exciting show because Friends of Jerry are playing Halloween movie scores. Going to be spooky as shit at the Ukrainian American club – but don’t worry the Russian Army is not welcomed – so no murders in the building. With electric Jazz / Acid Jazz band Raycat. Follow @friendsofjerry and @raycat_phl
Saturday night we have a very special Zapptest with our friends Reality Check Experiment doing 2 sets – going late as always. Reality Check always has something up its sleeve for special nights like this so expect to see costumes, a Michael Jackson cover or two, maybe some Rockwell – Something’s Watching Me? Follow Reality Check Experiment on IG @realitycheckexperiment. If you miss the show or can’t make it – stream live from home or watch the next day on youtube.
This special Halloween Zapp Test also features a special opening set by Philly Indie shoegazy troupe “Floating.” They have a pretty sick single out. Pretty excited to hear this group live. Plus they put out some sick memes for the show with various band members in famous Halloween movie posters. Love the originality. Follow on IG @floating.band
Other shit
If you’re out in NOCAL – Bay Area – check out Spafford. Spafford just put out a really interesting reel where their show this past week in Sacramento was cancelled by the venue due to lack of ticket sales. That’s crazy, especially because Spafford was selling out shows all week before and put out some really crazy videos from their recent Reno shows and Portland shows – show some respect and support Spafford!!! Follow on IG @spafford and check out their IG page – interesting stuff!
Other spooky shit – Southeast – Dogs in a Pile is playing a Halloween show in Altanta (well Roswell – From the Earth Brewing Company) before their set for Hulaween — but still worth the drive even if thought it’s Roswell as long as you’re anywhere close to the Altanta Region.
PS — anyone going to Hulaween FL? If so – hit up the comments. DiscoBiscuits is playing 3 sets – two sets as regular Disco Biscuits and one as Tractorbeam. They recently fired and / or their longtime drummer – Allen Aucoin – quit. Reddit is having a field day on r/discobiscuits. Certainly the new song writer – Joey – is getting some shade which seems unfair given the rote speculation as well as Joey’s role in putting out some of the best TDB songs in many many years. The new drummer is from Philly – Marlon B. Lewis – who has extensive experience playing with the bassist – Marc Brownstein – in their side project – Star Kitchen. However, having to play 2 sets at a massive fest, plus Tractorbeam, with what may have been less than ideal notice, amidst the drama of Barber (lead guitarist) putting out a diss track on Spotify about Allen – then quickly deleting – seems not ideal circumstances for a debut. Anywho – anyone at Hulaween who is checking out the DB sets – please let us know how they go. Very curious – and hopeful – as a recent addition to the #b4l ideology – that Marlon B. plays well and fits in musically esp. considering that Allen was a machine during 2 decades of service. Definitely disappointed as well as to how the drama played out. We will keep an eye out on future developments here, but hopefully Marlon B. rights the ship and we see more music and quality shows from TDB because the past few years have been their most prolific in a long time.
See you out on the Scenesberry!!!

It’s really endearing to see a host of the Disco Biscuits podcast acting like a fanboy and helping to promote this upcoming DJ Brownie show. Apparently and SOMEHOW this is going to be the first headlining Gig for DJ Brownie in Philadelphia. DJ Brownie has personally expressed his belief recently that he is coming into his own as a DJ – learning skills like reading the room, adjusting on the spot, modifying his plan for what the crowd is giving him. Having been used to watch Brownie stand mostly statutory with his bass guitar at the standard Disco Biscuits shows – I was highly impressed when observing his DJ set that he brings dance moves, fluidity, and high energy level as a DJ. He really puts it all out there. His knowledge of EDM, dance music, and party vibes is incontrovertible.
🕺🏻 🕺🏻 🕺🏻
DJ Brownie also has been working on some new tracks, new beats, has a new management team focused on the DJ side of Brownie’s music – so Brownie can focus on the music and less on the administrative side of his burgeoning DJ reputation.
Also with Brownie will be DJ Greenie (nee Mike Greenfield, drummer of Lotus). Mike is also an expert in beats, polyrhythms, getting bodies moving, and will be bringing a drum set too. As DJ Brownie’s first headlining Gig in Philly – he’s going to be sure to bring the energy to Silk City. It’s gonna be a scenesberry for sure.
Sunday Night 8:00 PM DJ Brownie first headlining gig ever in Philly – hard to believe but true – with DJ Greenie – on the kit. 20 bucks. It’s definitely party boy approved!

I figured over time, this would be a good place to share a compiled list of the best taco trucks in Austin.
Hopefully some others will chime in and share their experiences, because i’m such a newcomer to this city that there are definitely some legendary spots I have yet to try.
However, since i’m now living downtown on 6th street, i’m surrounded by wonderful taco trucks, and when i was in South Austin, there were also a bunch of good ones out there.
Here are some trucks i’ve tried, off the top of my head.
Mami’s Tacos – this one is in the parking lot of a gas station in South Austin. They have amazing breakfast tacos. I took my buddy from Charleston there and he ended up ordering 5 extra tacos to go after eating the three he started with. This is definitely my favorite out of all the ones i’ve tried so far in South Austin.
Taco Brother – Another south Austin gas station gem. This place rules too. Right outside of a liquor store and convenience store, this orange truck provides dank tacos.
Que Saison – This is behind the bar Daydreamer on East 6th. The tacos were tasty but they were pretty small and i thought they were expensive for what you get. I also wasn’t a fan of the bar’s vibe. Not their fault, it’s just too bright in there for my dive bar loving ass.
Las Trancas – This is on Cesar Chavez. I went there during SXSW and the tacos were super dank. I need to get back there again because they really were delicious.
Un Taco Mas – This one is off 35 right next to the holiday inn. This is the only taco truck i’ve eaten at here in Austin that i would not go back to. Maybe it was an off night, or maybe i didn’t order the right thing. But i didn’t even finish my tacos, i got a little grossed out by the sight of them in the fridge the next day and tossed the leftovers.
Anyway, there are definitely more taco spots in Austin, so i’ll add to this list over time. Feel free to chime in with any of your favorites that people should check out.
in forum: Music DiscussionI went to Saturday both weekends of ACL this year. They denied my media pass, but that’s okay. I was still on the ground. And they will not deny my media pass forever.
Doechii is literally one of the best performers i’ve ever seen. Both her and the Strokes I saw both weekends and both were good. But Doechii was way better.
The Strokes aren’t quite washed up. I just think that the genre of music they play is not cared for as much in this modern era. They are such a good band but they...

The Strokes aren’t quite washed up. I just think that the genre of music they play is not cared for as much in this modern era. They are such a good band but they aren’t Phish and they aren’t Sabrina Carpenter.
Sabrina Carpenter is so famous. Many people were specifically there to see her. The crowd was massive at her set. I only wandered over last week, but didn’t watch much. I did get to see her bring out Shania Twain which was very cool. They played “That don’t impress me much”
I got to sit on the BMI stage and watch them tonight with my good friend Gab. Sitting on the stage with bar service for free during a set like that is pretty cool. Making friends in the music industry does not require a job. You just have to hustle for a really long time.
And not having to pay $17 per beer is pretty dope, not gonna lie. I tipped the hell out of the bartender because she deserved it. She hooked me up all day long with ice cold brewskis.
Car Seat Headrest didn’t play Drugs With Friends and i was a little bummed about that. But i’m listening to it now and enjoying it. Such a good song that i have loved for many years.
Bird scooters are dangerous and fun as hell. I rode one home through downtown Austin and if I wasn’t a beast I probably would have died. Those things should have a breathalizer attached, lmao
Now it’s 6:30 am and i’m sitting on my front porch. I slept from 11pm until about 5am and here I am just awake and living my life here in Austin. Before the sun comes up the back porch at my new spot on 6th is pretty damn good.
Cheers, my fellow Americans, Europeans, and other people
Thanks for reading my brain dump

This past Friday night (9/26) found myself fortunate enough to check out local, soon-to-be legends Reality Check Experiment for their 61st Zapp Test. The Zapp test are free shows in “Brewery Town” Philadelphia (“Brewery Town” btw is another noobie made up neighborhood name to make it sound appealing to the gentrifiers – the neighborhood is traditionally called Eastern State Penn / Girard College or just West Girard). The good news is Reality Check are fully local bros – they aren’t gentrifyers but originaters. Their roots go back generations in the neighborhood, which explains partially how this Reality Check Experiment band has with the past year plus in Philadelphia created a vibe that harkens back to the days when underground shows were abundant in the city. In honor of the really “good old days” check out this 2 set marathon show by the Dead at the Philadelphia Spectrum from Sept 21, 1972 – 53 years and a few days ago – clocking in at a little over 4 hours. It’s a Sound Board recording mastered and transferred by legendary Head and Taper Charlie Miller, so the quality is pristine.

I recall the Dead not only because Reality Check plays some excellent covers of the Dead:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vxWoYIFJ2Ko
These young guns have created a vibe in a converted furniture store that calls back to the days of the merry pranksters, which appeals to old a new hippies alike. The old heads like me get down on some excellent Phish, Dead, and Pink Floyd covers. They also put a Sprinkle of Gizzard, dash of Zappa, two scoops Of jam, pinch of jazz, tablespoon of disco, served on a Bluto Blutarski sized plate with food fight to boot. Originals, extended jams, mixed in with covers that run the gamut from Ween to Wild Cherry. The almost weekly Zapp Tests are Animal House meets Acid Test – in 2025 no less when you thought such things were no longer possible. Between building from the ground up a music venue and curated thematic weekly shows that will be remembered for the ages, they also find time to travel up and down the east coast, recently having entertained thousands of Phish fans post-SPAC – somehow managing to keep a bunch of wooks spun out in the aftermath of Tweezerverse entertained with their diverse skill sets.
This past Friday night, after another impressive Zapp Test 61 (right around 42 minutes into the stream is a really nice jazz interlude that shows the depth of this band’s musical pond) …
Can You Pass The Zapp Test? 61.0
… I tried something a little different, cornering the band’s bassist Matt Pantos, and haranguing him for an interview – to discuss with me how the band not only (1) created their own scene but (2) turned it into a verifiable SCENESBERRY. Rather than my trying to describe the band, its influences, growth, and creation of a musical community, instead hear it from one of the architects directly:
Geezy on the SCENESBERRY (No. 1) with Matt Pantos – Bass Master of @realitycheckexp
As I often eavesdrop into other conversations during set breaks, I overheard what I believe to be the father of Josh Victor – vocalist and guitarist – stating how he had taken his son to see Phish at the Mann 10 years ago, and Josh expressed to him – Trey is amazing. I want to be like Trey. You could hear the wholesome pride and love in the father’s voice, when he expressed “Now he’s playing Phish after parties to hundreds of people.”
I also discovered, in my Mary Eavesdroppins, that Reality Check Experiment – this Saturday October 4, 2025 – is playing an Oktoberfest in Cantonsville, MD (Western Suburbs of Baltimore). They are playing Ween’s timeless classic – Chocolate and Cheese (front to back). Their set is 2:30 to 4:00. Also joining Reality Check Experiment at this excellent 12 acre outdoor Oktoberfest themed venue – are Neighbor featuring new addition Rob Compa of Dopapod fame …

as well as Seven Teller (Baltimore’s local funk fusion spectacle about to blow up under the creative lead of mad scientist Sam Cochran), and headliners Dogs in Pile. Dogs will bring it like they always do but particularly given the location – as their fan base tends to travel whenever the Dogs are within a few hours of home in Asbury Park – they will play a great show so as not to disappoint (then never do) but especially not when friends and family are present. Show is at the Vortex at CAA Park starting at 1 PM – http://www.musiccitymd.org – tickets $30 in advance and $40 at the door.

Also on Saturday – Oct 4 – we have jam next gen legends Goose in Philadelphia at the Mann.
An Evening With Goose Tickets Oct 04, 2025 Philadelphia, PA | Ticketmaster
Goose recently released its new album Everything Must Go in April, and judging by the fact that Apple Music has a long paragraph about it using descriptions like “taxonomical classification” and “irrepressible 80’s funk pop” it’s obvious that Goose has the eyes of Big Musical Corporate America upon it. I don’t mean this in a bad way (not completely at least) but more to show that Goose has in fact Made It. Then in their best Gizzard impression – Goose releases another album in August dubbed “Chain Yer Dragon.” This one is clearly less commercially impressive because all Apple Music has to say about “Chain Yer [D]” is this “The Connecticut band fuses jammy improv with tight rock grooves.” Guess that means Apple’s analysts predict this one will get less streams. It does play as less of a single unit than “Everything Must Go” but it still has the same smooth marmalade sound reminiscent of Jackson Browne or a smooth Glenn Fry – Eagles vibe but with Phish-inspired live extended jams that makes Goose so loved and so enjoyable live. Given that I want to get my 8 yr old daughter into Jam music, but Phish may be a bit too intense without prior exposure – I’m thinking Goose should be a solid choice here. Smooth, not hardcore, young band, polished, and poppy – perfect for an 8 year girl old I’m trying to groom into a jam fan, so she can be my DD in 10 years…yes…yes…Goose…the obvious choice. I’ll withhold bringing the Deemster pen I was passing around at the last Goose show I went to – Peachfest ’23 (alas the last one before ticketmaster killed it). Want that Phish fan to stop trashing Goose for being smooth adult contemporary listening? Bring your deems pen and suddenly Goose becomes a pathway for transcendental polyrhythmic hypnosis. Chubes wrote a great run down of that Peach ’23 btw. Great sets by Little Bird and Psychodelics. So sad Peach was killed by evil corporate America and their favorite festival serial killer – Ticketmaster. Goose tickets are $57 for lawn. I miss 15 years ago when lawn tickets were half that. Today that seems about reasonable as the going rate for a high production – high value show.
If you want to check out Chubes’ review of Peach – here it is – an oldie but a goodie. With excellent photos to boot.

A bit fucked this is my first post here especially after scrolling by a Brett Nash appreciation post, but Tin Roof’s annual Halloween Cover Show is coming around Oct 26th for those who would like to submit and have 15 minutes of fun! Check the details in the screenshots and I’ll post the submission email here on Sunday! Thanks! Love, Brett
