    What’s up y’all,

My name is Wesley Heaton. You may know me from playing bass in Daddy’s Beemer, the couple of articles I’ve written for Extra Chill, my kitchen work at Indaco or The Royal American, or running sound at Royal for the past 2.5 years. If you don’t know me at all, nice to meet you!

I’m posting on the Extra Chill community today to share something I’ve been silently working on for the past year or so. I have been doing multi-track recording of most of the bands that have come through Royal, taking them home to mix, and either putting them away on a hard drive, selling them back to the band, or uploading them to my soundcloud page. This is mostly for my own personal practice; I am not monetarily gaining anything from uploading these to soundcloud, and most of them haven’t even received many plays. I’ve gotten better at mixing at Royal, I’ve improved my workflow in ProTools, and I’ve realized that my small studio in my apartment is not great for getting a perfectly balanced mix!

I move to Philadelphia next week, but before I skip town I’d like to share the contents of my soundcloud with the Extra Chill community. Below you’ll find a directory of what I’ve uploaded so far. If you’ve been to Royal since October 2023 you’ve probably been recorded. I have lots of set I’ve never mixed, and I’ve got two more shows left running FOH, so if you have a soundcloud account hit follow to get an update when I drop some more bootlegs.

    Thanks!

    Wesley Heaton

this is incredible Wes. Just relistened through the whole FATHURDAY set and feel like I was thrown through a time loop.
34 mins on Cannon Rogers’ set has an excellent cover of “Jolene” FYI.

Very kind to share, Wes – MUCH appreciated. All the best in Philly.  If you haven’t already spoken to them, Grocer are a great resource for the city. They were very encouraging to a friend who is considering relocating there as well.

The coolest part about this for myself and I’m sure many people reading is how many of these shows that I was at. I love it so much and I can’t thank you enough for joining the community to share this. It’s exactly the reason why I built this place, so that things like this can blossom.

Appreciate you Wesley, for everything over the years. You the man. I won’t get too sentimental because I know I’ll see you again. But thanks for everything you’ve contributed to the Charleston music scene and to Extra Chill.

I’ll be digging through these over time but so far I’ve listened to that SUSTO album anniversary show and the Cannon Rogers show. I enjoyed the “Angel From Montgomery” cover that Cannon did and the stage banter. Cannon is also the man.

    Cheers!

This is awesome, Wesley! Documentation like this is so important for a scene.

I still haven’t dug into the tracks from our May show — kind of amazing how much one’s DAW workflow slows down when one isn’t editing and mixing all the time (not like riding a bike) but I’m looking forward to it, and I appreciate how easy you were to work with.

Also, I didn’t realize you were in Daddy’s Beemer. Cheers!
