Fri Oct 31 – Halloween – we got Friends of Jerry with Ray Cat.  Tickets are 30 bucks at Club Ukie (Ukranian American Club – 847 N Franklin St, Philadelphia PA).

Friends of Jerry and Raycat Tickets | $31.36 | Oct 31 @ Ukie Club, Philadelphia | DICE

Friends of Jerry are (mostly) a dead cover band who do an exceptional job at recreating the acid test vibe – with similar lighting and projections as you may have seen had you been hangin’ with Kesey and the boys (and Mountain Girl) back in ’68 in the Haight. This should be an exciting show because Friends of Jerry are playing Halloween movie scores.  Going to be spooky as shit at the Ukrainian American club – but don’t worry the Russian Army is not welcomed – so no murders in the building. With electric Jazz / Acid Jazz band Raycat. Follow @friendsofjerry and @raycat_phl

Saturday night we have a very special Zapptest with our friends Reality Check Experiment doing 2 sets – going late as always. Reality Check always has something up its sleeve for special nights like this so expect to see costumes, a Michael Jackson cover or two, maybe some Rockwell – Something’s Watching Me?  Follow Reality Check Experiment on IG @realitycheckexperiment.  If you miss the show or can’t make it – stream live from home or watch the next day on youtube.

This special Halloween Zapp Test also features a special opening set by Philly Indie shoegazy troupe “Floating.”  They have a pretty sick single out. Pretty excited to hear this group live. Plus they put out some sick memes for the show with various band members in famous Halloween movie posters. Love the originality. Follow on IG @floating.band

      Other shit

If you’re out in NOCAL – Bay Area – check out Spafford. Spafford just put out a really interesting reel where their show this past week in Sacramento was cancelled by the venue due to lack of ticket sales. That’s crazy, especially because Spafford was selling out shows all week before and put out some really crazy videos from their recent Reno shows and Portland shows – show some respect and support Spafford!!! Follow on IG @spafford and check out their IG page – interesting stuff!

Other spooky shit – Southeast – Dogs in a Pile is playing a Halloween show in Altanta (well Roswell – From the Earth Brewing Company) before their set for Hulaween — but still worth the drive even if thought it’s Roswell as long as you’re anywhere close to the Altanta Region.

PS — anyone going to Hulaween FL?  If so – hit up the comments. DiscoBiscuits is playing 3 sets – two sets as regular Disco Biscuits and one as Tractorbeam.  They recently fired and / or their longtime drummer – Allen Aucoin – quit. Reddit is having a field day on r/discobiscuits. Certainly the new song writer – Joey – is getting some shade which seems unfair given the rote speculation as well as Joey’s role in putting out some of the best TDB songs in many many years. The new drummer is from Philly – Marlon B. Lewis – who has extensive experience playing with the bassist – Marc Brownstein – in their side project – Star Kitchen.  However, having to play 2 sets at a massive fest, plus Tractorbeam, with what may have been less than ideal notice, amidst the drama of Barber (lead guitarist) putting out a diss track on Spotify about Allen – then quickly deleting – seems not ideal circumstances for a debut. Anywho – anyone at Hulaween who is checking out the DB sets – please let us know how they go. Very curious – and hopeful – as a recent addition to the #b4l ideology – that Marlon B. plays well and fits in musically esp. considering that Allen was a machine during 2 decades of service. Definitely disappointed as well as to how the drama played out.  We will keep an eye out on future developments here, but hopefully Marlon B. rights the ship and we see more music and quality shows from TDB because the past few years have been their most prolific in a long time.

See you out on the Scenesberry!!!
