There has been a lot of pushback against Spotify lately, with several major artists choosing to leave the streaming platform.

This resulted from the CEO Daniel Ek investing in the AI weapons company Helsing, something that is fully against the values of just about every musician.

Of course, this comes after a decade-plus of the platform exploiting artists for financial gain, collaborating with major labels to give the illusion of organic discovery, while helping to diminish the DIY music scene...

Only a month later and we’re back in the same situation again. Another THC ban bill has passed through the Texas Senate

The legislation would continue to outright ban cannabis products with “any amount” of cannabinoids other the CBD and CBG. Even mere possession of a prohibited cannabis item would be punishable as a Class B misdemeanor, carrying up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

It’s been a minute since I’ve checked in on this thread. I’ve been in Austin about 9 months now, but honestly haven’t had the ability to go out and explore as much as I would have liked yet.

This fall, I will be moving to a spot downtown on the East Side, which will have me out and about much more often. I’m really looking forward to that.

Coming out here without a plan was probably misguided to an extent. I ran out of money and lived in a cave for a while. But now I’ve got a solid...

This summer, Charleston’s hip-hop and R&B scene proved its mettle, delivering a steady stream of #GxldApproved releases that have solidified the city’s position as a growing hub of versatile sound in its underground hip hop and RnB scene. The decision to hold off on a summertime playlist until the end of July was a wise one, as the season exploded with a flurry of music videos, singles, and full-length albums. The sheer volume of drops and rollouts was impressive, highlighting that the scene is not only growing but also becoming a rich, multi-faceted patchwork of sounds. (Once we get a lock on these stages it’s a WRAP)

The sustained prominence and diversity of hip-hop in a city like Charleston, where it isn’t the biggest draw in entertainment, is crucial. For too long, the local hip-hop scene has been overshadowed by the city’s ‘status quo’ and a lack of dedicated venues. However, this summer’s relentless output proves that the scene is not just surviving—it’s thriving. It’s a movement built on a foundation of independent artists, dedicated producers, and a community that is working to elevate its own. By pushing boundaries and cultivating a sound that is uniquely our own, Charleston’s hip-hop artists are not only creating great music but also ensuring that the city’s cultural landscape is representative of all its voices. The summer of #Gxldapproved releases wasn’t just about new music; it was a statement that Charleston hip-hop is here to stay, unapologetically authentic and a vital part of the city’s artistic identity.

it’s been a hot minute since i’ve done any writing

I realized my newsletter hasn’t gone out since May.

Whenever i wait too long between sends, i get a big wave of unsubscribes.

i still love to write. i’m just trying to make some fucking money right now and this has become a passion project at this point in my life

I’m building WordPress plugins, which i will use on Extra Chill. But i’m going to sell them as products too. That’s where my focus is right now

I watched Phone Booth last night. It’s kind of viewed as a modern classic but I honestly thought it was stupid. I guess the artistic value comes in the shots and the framing, and the nostalgia for the phone booth itself.

It wasn’t a terrible movie by any means, it’s just… The plot, and the dialogue, was dumb to me. It didn’t hook me. This guy wanted to shoot him because he was cheating on his wife? Or he WANTED to cheat on his wife?

But the shooter was just a random guy who had access...
