Okay just to keep things straight, the order of releases is as follows. “Euphoria” followed by “616 in LA”

Then Drake’s “Family Matters” … released on May 4th

“Meet the grahams” dropped 30 minutes after Family Matters.

And now… the next one from Kendrick… “Not Like Us”

He directly calls Drake a pedo in this one. I honestly think that this could be the end of Drake’s career.

Kendrick Lamar is also positioning himself as the best rapper of all time, in my opinion. He is setting himself up as a role model, cultural icon, and voice of a generation. He could be inspiring changes across the entirety of hip-hop as a genre if this continues along this path.

It went from being a beef to being much more than a beef.

@indigxld all I can say is holy shit … this goes beyond “rap beef” honestly. This is next level change the world type shit, Kendrick using his platform to speak about things that he’s seen. Comparing Drake to Weinstein and all that… and mentioning Katt Williams seems to suggest that Kendrick has seen the same shit…

We’ve all heard the conspiracy theories …

Hey Kameron, thanks for signing up. I didn’t make the show, how was it?

Another one that I watched last night. Pretty cool to find an underground artist with under 5,000 views on his videos who has me watching full 16 minute performances and then looking up interviews about him.

I found one interview in Allston Pudding from last summer. They ask him about his genre and I thought it was interesting what he responded. He’s definitely got this gruff artist vibe going on:

AP: It’s funny you mention the wall-of-sound stuff because we wanted to ask about the internet-y chatter about this sort of “country-gaze” thing. Do you see yourself in that sort of continuum?

GF: I don’t think so to be honest. I don’t play country music or shoegaze, and I don’t really listen to shoegaze, so I’m not sure where that comes from. I guess I just don’t know how many people actually use that term in real life, it feels like some sorta subcultural term. I can see why people are talking about it with regards to my music, but the new songs I’m writing are a little bit different, and I don’t think they really fit with that whole thing, they’re definitely a departure.

@texastoasted I was at that Cheer Up Charlies show too! I think that might be where we met actually. I talked to him after his set about the genre thing, except I didn’t say country-gaze. I told him it sounds “genre-less.” And they said that’s what they’re going for.

Here’s a new Greg Freeman video. I also saw him at SXSW, and this is one of the songs he played. I think this guy is going to become an indie darling. I’ve already seen some big shot music writers talking about him on Twitter.

PS just because I say “big shot” doesn’t mean they’re any good.

I just had the chance to listen to this. Man, Kendrick Lamar is incredibly talented, and sounds super genuine in this. He sounds like a real ass motherfucker with principles. The attitude is like “bro, fuck off, you aren’t on my level, leave me alone, and here is why.” Then he proceeds to not just say it, but display it.

I hear you about the beef being disappointing. But it’s still pretty fascinating to watch and hear this go down.

And yeah, I mean Drake has always been a “pop-rapper.” The music is catchy and “good” but it also doesn’t have too much lasting value, the songs get old as soon as he has a new hit. It’s just not unique or groundbreaking to me anymore. I was really into Thank Me Later back in high school, I think I found out about him from Lil Wayne in the first place. But I still listen to Lil Wayne. Drake lost me years ago.

Kendrick is a true artist and one of the best that has ever done it.

And my review, which is titled: How High Water Festival Could Do More for Charleston, SC

I talk about the lack of local representation, cultural representation, Liquid Death at $6 per can, and the 25% merch cut that the festival took from artists.

@steveaycockphoto hell yeah man. Frasco is known to always be a party, and the photos capture that. Two sold out nights, wish I could have made it out. Good stuff and thanks again for sharing it here!

There’s a Wilco song called “Less Than You Think” that is 15 minutes long. But it’s really a 2 minute song followed by 15 minutes straight of distorted white noise. Not a true “hidden track” but similar. Released in 2004.

Sometimes, Wilco can make “distorted white noise” sound good. But here, they don’t even try. It’s not pleasant at all and it’s not supposed to be.

@steveaycockphoto hell yeah man! The PoHo def saw it because they re-shared my post about it on Instagram today.

i didn’t realize this was done with just the in-camera audio. Attaching a mic is probably going to change the game in that case

I agree, the videos are great. Thank you for sharing!

Did you show this to the bands / the Pour House?

The video quality is insanely good and the audio is totally passable, especially given the handheld camera style. It’s like listening to an audience tape recording which a lot of people like, and with video it gives the feel of being right there with a front row view.

If you ever wanted to, you could try to sync a video up with a mix from the soundboard but it might take away from the in-the-moment aspect.
