Thought this was an interesting read on the new A.I. policy for the Grammys. Wondering what everyone thinks about this, and how A.I. will be integrated into the music industry. We know it’s not going anywhere, so I guess adapting is the only choice we have.

I think the advancement of AI is coming whether we like it or not. But ultimately I think public opinion is going to drive this more than anything else. If the AI music sells, there’s going to be more of it. If people choose to consume music made by people only, then there’s going to be less of it.

Personally, I think AI is an amazingly useful tool and this forum wouldn’t be nearly as advanced without my having access to AI while making it. But when it comes to art, I’d prefer it to be made by real humans expressing themselves.

If they use AI tools to help them do that, and it sounds good, then I’m not totally against it. But if it becomes a substitute for actual artistic expression, and we start to lose the human element that makes music so great, then I’m way against it.

I still have faith enough in humanity to think that people will still choose real music and musicians over AI-generated music, as the tech advances to make it even more possible. But for a while it’s possible that we get really heavy into the AI, everywhere in our lives, as it continues to evolve rapidly.

I, for one, welcome the new age of our robot overlords:

So i’m going to SXSW next week and i got invited to this thing called the “Future of Music Dinner” hosted by a company called Aimi.fm. Generative music.

Pretty savvy marketing since they call it an “annual” dinner but it’s their first event I believe. I’m probably going to check it out, and I’ll have some stuff to report here afterwards.

Generative music is a really weird thing to think about, the more I consider it. I’m skeptical about calling it the future of music but it might be true.

Oh man, this aged wildly. This is just the beginning of the AI in music stuff.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the AI band that went viral, The Velvet Sundown.

I haven’t listened to their music, but somebody made serious bank getting AI music onto Spotify playlists.

Most people are outraged by this. I’ve noticed about myself that my “outrage tolerance” is pretty high for a lot of things. Especially having to do with AI. So I guess I just find it funny.

The app they used is called Suno.

This whole thing feeds oddly like a marketing campaign for Suno.

When someone wants to calm themselves, or commiserate, or feel even better, they search out the sounds that give way to those vibrations. I think people that are intuitive will notice the spirit enveloped in real, man/woman made music. AI is not capable of such because it has no soul.

Then again, there are tons of absent minded folks walking around, bobbing their heads without even thinking. I’m one of them, once in while. Not as much with music but with many other things.

How our brains function, the way computers further learn to manipulate our brains… It really just depends on time and what permissions we allow. We all run on electricity after all, heart and mind. Even conception begins with a spark.

      There are only more questions.

      God speed.
