Thought this was an interesting read on the new A.I. policy for the Grammys. Wondering what everyone thinks about this, and how A.I. will be integrated into the music industry. We know it’s not going anywhere, so I guess adapting is the only choice we have.

But ultimately I think public opinion is going to drive this more than anything else. If the AI music sells, there’s going to be more of it. If people choose to consume music made by people only, then there’s going to be less of it.
Personally, I think AI is an amazingly useful tool and this forum wouldn’t be nearly as advanced without my having access to AI while making it. But when it comes to art, I’d prefer it to be made by real humans expressing themselves.
If they use AI tools to help them do that, and it sounds good, then I’m not totally against it. But if it becomes a substitute for actual artistic expression, and we start to lose the human element that makes music so great, then I’m way against it.
I still have faith enough in humanity to think that people will still choose real music and musicians over AI-generated music, as the tech advances to make it even more possible. But for a while it’s possible that we get really heavy into the AI, everywhere in our lives, as it continues to evolve rapidly.

Pretty savvy marketing since they call it an “annual” dinner but it’s their first event I believe. I’m probably going to check it out, and I’ll have some stuff to report here afterwards.
Generative music is a really weird thing to think about, the more I consider it. I’m skeptical about calling it the future of music but it might be true.
