in reply to: Will Nugs live stream sphere shows?
Dude I hope so but I doubt it for Phish at least. Maybe some of the Dead & Co shows will be streamed on Nugs this summer.
I’m so jealous of anyone who is going to see Phish at the Sphere tonight.
in forum: Music DiscussionThis performance is everything and electrifying too… Struck me as very odd the first time listening and watching, and I suspect you’ll feel the same on the first go ’round with this artist. Meg is ‘different’ to say the least.

But… as the saying goes, it’s like a beautiful train wreck. I couldn’t tear my eyes or ears away from this video or her music, and eventually went into a deep dive with her discography. Her first album is just amazing. It deals with a wide variety of subject matter and feels comforting, alarming, and sexy all at the same time.
Meg is a one of a kind songwiter, singer, peformer who is very much breaking the mold, or all three molds, or more.
I will add the personal note that I’m not as enamored with her most recent work post-pandemic, but artists need space to grow and experiment and she’s earned the right to do as she pleases musically. I do hope to hear more work closer to her roots one day, and will continue to pay attention to whatever she produces.
You’re going to say, wow, or wtf or shake your head watching this. It’s not like anything you’ve seen…. or if it IS like something you’ve seen, please share, I’m all ears and eyes for anything this awesome!

in forum: Music Discussion¿Quién chingados es DIM JIM?
Charlie “Dim Jim” Gil was a Texas-born singer and rock ‘n’ roll zealot who got burned alive in an accidental warehouse fire with all the other members of the Wolf Note Collective back in ’18.
But this unholy ghost lives on in his music, available now on Microwave Eyes Tapes. And as an adept in astral projection, he has also been known to make “live” appearances from time to time, manifesting in various forms on various stages, so don’t believe for a second that he won’t do a show for you just ’cause he’s...

His seminal record It’s Him! is available on cassette now, one of only a handful of Wolf Note works rescued from the ashes of the conflagration that took the ne-er-do-well art groop’s lives.
I ask that you please check out Dim Jim’s music as soon as possible. For his Mama’s sake, pobrecita. She never expected to lose her only child* so soon. She was always telling him not to rock ‘n’ roll but he did anyway and now he’s dead. Puta madre.**

in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?These young woman, just killin’ it live. Hard rock personified. From their originals to their Metallica covers, they just knock it clean out of the park. This peformance has been on my repeat/playlist at work for a few weeks now. Really enjoy it a lot. Highly recommended if you’re a hard rock fan… and worth taking a look/listen even if you’re not.
in reply to: PhishAnother interview with Trey about the Sphere, this one on video courtesy of Alternative Press
He says: “I love getting up in the morning and creatively thinking of another cool thing to blow people’s minds. I mean it’s like my favorite thing to do.”
I’m so jealous of anyone who will be in attendance at these shows. Trey seems really excited about it… it’s going to be incredible…. can’t wait to see what they came up with.

in forum: Music DiscussionA fave artist of mine. Definitely something a bit different. I’ve been following his work for a while now. Appreciate the level of humor he adds to the majority of his work. He’s loose with his lyrics, but also clever and sometimes even a bit righteous. Got to see him perform at the Farm last year (didn’t get to photo-much to my dismay but I’ll be on the lookout for the next time) and had a great time. Got to see him perform at the Farm last year (didn’t get to photo-much to my dismay but I’ll be on the lookout for the next time) and had a great time. The show was slow to get started with opening acts and his DJ fluffing time for what I thought was a bit too long, but when he finally came out he and the rest of the crew really delivered. He is a master showman, and that becomes apparent early in the performance.
This is the ‘Live and in Color’ one-take of his song ‘Louisiana’ which to me is a more heartfelt and direct version of the song… but for sure there’s a LOT more context and reason in the original video. I’ll post the links to both below.
I think you’ll find that his vocals on this are fairly impressive and the lyrics are meaningful if you can manage to take it all in. Might require more than one listen… which is not a bad thing.
I’m not sure which of the two should be watched first, but definitely recommend both.

Maybe the best cover of this song I’ve heard. Such a rad band.
in reply to: High Water 2024Noted. Thanks Chris! I definitely won’t be afraid to share my real thoughts and opinions. Looking forward to it.
in reply to: High Water 2024Another thing to add, RE: being critical
Don’t worry about upsetting any PR people. Think about your own job and your own asshole boss. In this case the asshole boss is a Live Nation stiff. The PR people are on our side unless they have an @livenation.com email address.
People in general are ready for a change in the music industry and we can do our part to help bring that about.
I was critical of them last year and they responded by giving us 4 tickets this year.

Not saying “be critical on purpose.” But moreso, if something sticks out as blatantly wrong, say it with your chest.
in reply to: High Water 20243 days until the festival… talked to Mikayla last night and gave her your number SG. She is going to try and link up with Briston Maroney for an off-stage photo shoot.
The rules state that only one photog per publication is allowed in the pit at a time. So, y’all can work out the conflicts. They may not be as strict as they are saying.
Also, please take some photos of the overall festival vibe aside from the performers. That way we can capture the event as a whole.
If anybody needs anything,...

Kate, my one ask from you is to allow your personal opinions to shine through in your writing. Don’t be afraid to say things that may shake some people up. We are working with this powerful independent voice right now and part of that is being critical of the powers that be.
I think if we continue to foster this we have a chance to become nationally-recognized as a strong independent music publication.
in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?This odd story telling (sort of) song with an infectious melody is well… infectious. The video is really well done, and is worth watching all the way through for the interesting ending.
Note that the main char’ in the video is played (best lip sync ever) by the English actor David Thewlis, who you’ve undoubtedly scene in a number of television shows and movies over the years. The actual singer, makes an appearance as a cameo… interesting way to make a video to say the least. It’s...

The actual singer, makes an appearance as a cameo… interesting way to make a video to say the least. It’s engaging, and the lyrics might be interpreted as both dark and uplifting simultaneously. At the minimum, it’s thought provoking.
There is a second version featuring Elton John as well, and while I think it’s ok, I prefer this original.
Check out some of their other work for it’s weirdness, engaging themes around economics, relationships and more.
