A fave artist of mine. Definitely something a bit different. I’ve been following his work for a while now. Appreciate the level of humor he adds to the majority of his work. He’s loose with his lyrics, but also clever and sometimes even a bit righteous. Got to see him perform at the Farm last year (didn’t get to photo-much to my dismay but I’ll be on the lookout for the next time) and had a great time. The show was slow to get started with opening acts and his DJ fluffing time for what I thought was a bit too long, but when he finally came out he and the rest of the crew really delivered. He is a master showman, and that becomes apparent early in the performance.
This is the ‘Live and in Color’ one-take of his song ‘Louisiana’ which to me is a more heartfelt and direct version of the song… but for sure there’s a LOT more context and reason in the original video. I’ll post the links to both below.
I think you’ll find that his vocals on this are fairly impressive and the lyrics are meaningful if you can manage to take it all in. Might require more than one listen… which is not a bad thing.
I’m not sure which of the two should be watched first, but definitely recommend both.
