in reply to: Beeple Studios Digital Deathmatch!
Wow that’s a pretty good prize for a party! I love a good LAN party, I used to set up and play Warcraft in my parents’ basement with my brothers during the holidays. So much fun being in the same room while playing those deep focus games, for some reason.
I put in for an RSVP to this at the last minute but I didn’t get in I guess. I will have to make it out to the next one.
in reply to: Kendrick Lamar ‘Diss’Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track “Not Like Us” debuts at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The number one song in America.
in reply to: Dave Matthews Band@marleyfacedboy yeah that was sick man! I guess you’ve been digging into DMB a lot more lately? I haven’t gone down that rabbit hole since college, but I’ve always enjoyed what I’ve heard from them.
They always get made fun of for being the fratty jam band but when it slaps it slaps
in reply to: Bob Marley DiscussionI’ve really been digging the 1974 Bob Marley & The Wailers album Natty Dread. This album contains the studio recording of “No Woman No Cry” and “Lively Up Yourself”, but otherwise it’s one of his lesser known albums.
It has one of my favorite songs on it, though: “Rebel Music (3 O’Clock Roadblock)”
I just published an essay about the meaning of “Rebel Music” on the main blog.
And another one that I’ve been digging into lately: “Talkin’ Blues”

This song also ended up being the name of a 1991 compilation album of 70s recordings.
in reply to: Kendrick Lamar ‘Diss’The song releasing part of the beef appears to be over (possibly?), and Kendrick Lamar has been declared the winner. But now there is some stuff going on in the aftermath. Some of it is amusing, some of it is kind of scary.
For the amusing part, here is something I found on Reddit. People were accusing Kendrick of farming lines from “Not Like Us” from Tweets. Corn on Twitter points out that this is pretty ironic:
Drake Security Guard Shot

In more concerning news, Drake’s security guard was shot outside of his home in Toronto. It’s not clear whether or not this is related to the beef. Here is the news, from Stereogum (my favorite independent music blog):

EbonyPrince2k24 Tweets
There is also a Twitter account called EbonyPrince2k24 that claims to be a Hotel employee who found some items that Drake left behind in the hotel one night in the lost and found… his Tweets are pretty cryptic and I won’t try to make sense of them… see it for yourself here.
Overall there seems to be a lot stemming from this beef and I don’t believe it’s fully over yet… I don’t know if this EbonyPrince person has anything real or if they are just looking to stir up controversy … I’m just watching and sharing my findings for anyone who is curious about the Kendrick vs Drake beef

in reply to: Dave Matthews BandThis one’s a doozy. Gorgeous #41 featuring Bela Fleck & the Flecktones
in reply to: Mister Morning – Lexington, SC (Lofi / Indie Pop)“Mean” by Mister Morning was released today. This one has a minimalist, lofi style, following the lead guitar riff with various layers dropping in throughout the song. Mister Morning is one artist that I discovered on the forum where I can honestly say that I have enjoyed all of the music so far.
I will be adding this one to Extra Chill’s New Music Radar next week. Thanks for the heads up about the new track!
in reply to: A. O. Wilder – New York, NY (Country Rock)Hey dude thanks for joining! I just had the chance to listen to this and it’s good stuff! I’ll add it to our playlist, I will be getting an update together this week. Hope you’ll keep coming back and sharing each single here as they come out!
Are they part of an album, or just individual singles?

Loved your song “Free” on Extra Chill’s playlist. What else do you have going on? Any updates?
I’ve mainly been working on ideas for a video or 2 for the album. But definitely in the lab working on more music as well! Stay tuned!

in reply to: Beeple Studios Digital Deathmatch! The main competition table was setup with multiple identical laptops provided by one of the sponsors, a company that builds workstations.
There was definitely a LAN Party vibe to it. The first few rounds, folks were pretty relaxed but by the end as the stakes got higher and people were being eliminated you could see that people were starting to get a little anxious. The prize was a cool $5K plus extras so when it came down the wire the feel of “competition” became more evident.

At the end, when the winner was announced, the 2nd place guy was very gracious… and no one exhibited anything negative at all.
There was a sort of ‘sports’ feel going on as well… which continued through the interviewing of the winner at the end.
Really fun event and a mind blowing studio space.
in reply to: Extra Chill Fest 2024I’m here for Maxwell’s Silver Jammer. That’s an Andy Greenberg project where he plays all Beatles songs in a jam band format. Freaking awesome!
Pretty cool to be giving $10 off tickets to community members too. Saves us a few bucks even after fees.
in reply to: Anyone else come full circle on Noah Kahan?I think there is a chance that he heard someone called him mid after the Charleston show because I saw it posted on the Charleston subreddit when someone asked for reviews of High Water. Also, the story I made on Instagram after I wrote my last post in this thread was one of the most popular Instagram stories that Extra Chill has ever posted.
Some people in the media tent were huge Noah Kahan fans and @badjonphoto was asking me questions, and I answered truthfully in a tent full of the entire media crew. Which means that everyone in the media tent heard about that little writeup, and a lot of them probably clicked through and read it during the rainy downtime....

It’s actually a pretty clever bit for Noah to be saying “Noah Kahan is mid” himself, regardless of whether or not he saw my review. Now he’s got his fans joking that Noah Kahan is so mid, so it takes away power from anyone who means it. If you type into Google “Noah Kahan is mid” you’ll find that video and news about it on all sorts of sites, with people sarcastically saying he is mid.
Hopefully soon you will also find this forum post, so we can be the discerning voice of reason.
It’s funny, this is the most popular post on this forum as of right now. People find this page by searching “Noah Kahan sucks” and “why do people like Noah Kahan” If you found it by searching for something like that, why don’t you make an account and chime in on the discussion?
