in reply to: Announcing the Community
Good idea. Having conversations in here that get people fired up is a good way to encourage signups.
I have an article going up on the blog that should help some. I guess some of it will also be about people finding the Community on Google. So I’ve gotta use the phrase Music Forum as much as possible on both websites.
Say Music Forum (doesn’t count in the private forums, they’re NoIndexed)
I’m going to make a knowledge base section that explains all of the features, which I guess will...

in reply to: Announcing the CommunityWe need to pose some polarizing topics or views..or articles posing polarizing questions to give people fuel to have at it in an open discussion forum. Think like every single post & courier Instagram posts.. everyone goes at it in the comments.

Homegrown Charleston-based music & lifestyle blog Extra Chill is set to make their Music Farm debut on Friday, April 5th 2024, on the eve of the Cooper River Bridge Run. The show will feature an all-local lineup performing a mashup-style 90s tribute that is sure to make for a special evening in the heart of downtown Charleston.
This milestone moment for Extra Chill, booking a room that they’ve frequented for over a decade, has them bringing together a variety of local artists for tributes to some of the most powerful voices in 90s music. Names who helped to shape the face of the modern music industry as we know it, and paved the way for generations of artists to follow.
The show is likely the first to be a larger series aimed at crafting unique tribute shows with local talent at the Music Farm. Each of which will feature a different lineup of local artists performing tributes to different 90s legends, in a similar mashup style.
See lineup and full show details below.
Alanis Morissette vs. Sheryl Crow
Performed by Jenna Desmond (Babe Club), Presley Randall (Baby Yaga), Corey Campbell (Babe Club), JR Spencer (Majic Dust), Alex Brouwer (Baby Yaga), McCarthy Fitch (Inn Vinegar), and Heather Kimbrell.
Queens of 90s Hip-Hop Tribute
Performed by Toni Esther, Joi Giovanni, GiRL, and Hood Badu, with support from the band Soulful Sounds Entertainment.
DJ Mosaic Spins 90s Mashups
DJ Mosaic AKA Wes Pickell of Eyeland Graphics helping to facilitate a smooth transition of vibes.

Drive up service for some really solid food. Great pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, fried catfish, smashburgers, and more.
We’re always in need of more food options on that side of town so this place is a welcome addition to the area. If you’re ever on the 61 side of West Ashley and looking for something good, greasy, and quick, this place is worth a try.
in reply to: Writing a Press Release for a Music EventOk here we go… I am going to send this exact press release to a list of recipients tomorrow at 10am, @meghanveino will be BCC (blind carbon copy, meaning that nobody can see that she also received the email.)

If I make any additional changes before sending (which I probably will) I will note them here. Feel free to chime in if you have any questions!
I will also be posting a version of this article on Extra Chill but instead of using the third person I will use a slightly more personal tone. I will adapt that and schedule the social media posts with my morning coffee before sending all this out.
in reply to: Announcing the CommunityThink of Extra Chill as if you were a random person coming in from the internet…. which we get 5000+ of those per day on the main blog.
What are some things that would encourage you to check out a community like this?
I have added a little pop up on the upvote icon. We need to find ways to funnel people in from the main site, making more and more paths over here.
If there are any features that are non-intuitive or seem confusing, definitely point them out so I can work to resolve them.
in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?Here’s a song from Mitski, who I have been loving lately. She really has something special.
in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?Found this live show from Hum last night. I love this band, especially their album You’d Prefer an Astronaut. My fav tracks are “Stars,” “The Pod,” and “Why I Like the Robbins.” I think they are a super underrated 90s band that deserves more attention. Definitely worth checking out.
in forum: Extra Chill TeamHey everybody. I’m trying to announce the community this week. I know its a big change and people don’t really understand how it works yet. I’m trying to figure out the best way to present it, whether its just a series of instructions or some graphics or whatnot. I’m not the greatest at the graphic side of things. Let me know if anybody has any thoughts or feedback!
Also, generally speaking, it would be very helpful if y’all attempted a post or two in the forum and added a profile...
