Navigating modern internet driven communications platforms and social media has been a pretty wild ride. Not only do we not have any control over the algorithms, we don’t even have the data to navigate or make the most use of them.
What is the answer, the solution for me to grow my photography if I can’t reach the people who need to see the images… and who are those people? The artists themselves, or their fans? and where do I draw a line between promoting an artist I’ve photographed, or promoting my own work as the photographer without stepping on that same artist’s toes?
Maybe branching out to more or different platforms… like not unironically ‘patreon’?
What do I do to make money at this, if even just to keep up with the gear required to keep doing it? I know other people do it but I don’t think I’d be too comfortable with selling images of someone else’s likeness.
Would the artists I photograph be ok with it if I sold a coffee table book with THEM in it? Would they be flattered, or upset?
in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?Lyrically clever and unique, great sound, super fun and sexy with a distinct humorous twist. On-Point background vocals by Rabbit. Produced by Ant of Atmosphere. This is really fun. You can’t NOT like this song and video.
in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?This young woman, hailing from Norway, is an internationally recognized talent. Singer, songwriter, pianist… I really love her clever lyricism. The line in this song.. “You’re as safe as a mountain, but know that I am dynamite”, is so bold and frankly, inspiring. Punching above her weight… and age. This one is a hit song for her… but I would encourage listening to the rest of her discography. Leaning hard into her live performances will leave you really impressed.
in reply to: What Are You Listening To Right Now?Discovered this one a few years back and have it in my semi-regular playlist. Love the line, “She cut a hole in the fence and she ran “… escaping whatever it is that is holding us back.
Lyrics…
in reply to: Night 1 of Loser FestA little late in getting this posted here, but if folks are interested in checking it out, here’s (link below) a visual recap of LoserFest, both nights. Was a super double-show, with so many talented artists. Some of my local favorites and some new faces and sounds too. Moldybrain and Kubby’s set was an unexpected highlight. The crowd was, as usual, super cool too. people don’t often mention the attendees, but these artists attract a culture of fun and camaraderie that makes being there… or being the photographer, especially enjoyable.
Thanks to all the people who I bumped into or moved around to allow me to get ‘the shot’, I noticed and appreciate you!
