I guess I should start with one of my all-time favorites, “Mission in the Rain” from Keane College 2/28/80

That one’s an all-timer. Gotta be this Mississippi Half-Step for me. Has a little more pep in its step coming out of EotW

Do you mean when he says he can’t hear his guitar? I think he’s talking to the sound guy about the monitor on the stage

There are a lot of places to talk about the Dead on the internet, but this one is ours.

How about a 20 minute Sugaree this morning?

“Sitting In Limbo” 9/1/74 – saxophone by Martin Fierro. Smooth like butter and before Jerry got into heroin

No matter how much music is out there, that I enjoy. I keep coming back to Jerry. There is something so warm and inviting about his voice and the choices he makes on the guitar. It’s peaceful, inspiring, and psychedelic all together.

I’ve noticed that everything I’ve shared in here so far has been JGB. I guess that’s been my vibe lately. I’ve got nothing to say about Valentine’s Day at this point in my life but I do feel the love on this recording…

This is the best Jerry Garcia Band show that I am aware of.

This is on my top top top tier lists of greatest JGB live shows. Honestly, it may be the Barton Hall of JGB shows. If you haven’t listened to this show.. TAP IN!! That’s an inside joke, lol. But seriously..The keys are so dope.

“Jack Straw” 10/20/84 – absolutely rips. I listened to this whole show and Bobby seems pretty pissed off. The “take a step back” is rather aggressive. This is the set one closer. Really gets going. I love 80s dead for shit like this

Side note: reading archive.org comments on Dead shows is one of my favorite pastimes

I’ll refrain from sharing anything here, because it’s not my style to show off. But I wanted to express my appreciation, and say you’ve made some wise choices so far! I felt so naked without my beard, I never shaved it again!

I’ll be lurking… and waiting for the first “Dark Star”

      Signed,

      Jerry G

Thanks Jerry! Glad to have you around here. Can’t believe one of my heroes joined the forum so early on… so humbled.

JGB – “Werewolves of London” Halloween 1992 – encore

Even while I’m at a festival with lots of different artists, I’m still out here on my friend’s porch listening to Jerry. Lot on my mind this past week and my buddy @qrisg sent me this one. Jerry’s got a song for everything.

Back again with some “China > Rider” 7/17/89. Alpine Valley.

Jerry shouts the “headlight” verse with all his might and it’s just awesome (around 8:50-9min)

I was listening to this one today while sailing on Folly Beach and really enjoyed the heck out of it. Sometimes it seems like he can remember the Bob Dylan songs better than his own, lol.

New GarciaLive out on June 14th. Volume 21, featuring the show from 2/13/76.

I’m into this of course and can’t wait to hear it. But I’ve gotta say I really loved the previous one from ’82 and I would love to hear some more 80s Jerry see release in general.

I’m aware that this was a rougher period for him but I also think some of the best “diamonds in the rough” are 80s jerry.

Happy with any new JGB that makes its way into the world.

I just finished writing about “Ramble on Rose” and I’m going through recordings of it now.

This is one of the most famous Grateful Dead recordings out there, and it’s clear to see why. I remember I sent you this one when I first got into the Dead @marleyfacedboy. – 7/7/89 RFK Stadium in Philly

6/26/94  Las Vegas – Jerry’s vocals are so weirdly off during this but it also kinda slaps. Jerry in short shorts and high off his ass!

My go-to is usually Euro ’72 but I can’t deny how much better it sounds with Brent backing. Or Jer’s sexy guitar tone in that second clip

Yeah the vocals on Europe ’72 version are great, it’s definitely the one that is seen as the “definitive” version. Fun fact it was never released on a studio album but the Dead played it over 300 times and it’s one of the most well-known Deadhead songs.

      Also, obligatory, Happy 5/8/77 day

GarciaLive Volume 21 has been out for about a month and I absolutely love it. Show is from February 13th, 1976, with two tracks at the end from February 15th.

The 1976 sound was supremely chill both in the Grateful Dead and the JGB world. This GarciaLive embodies that chill sound quite well.

My favorite after several listens is “The Harder They Come.” 18+ minutes of pure Jerry chillness, with some great building towards the end. Jerry’s last solo is just excellent.

Whole CD is worth a listen but this is the one you gotta hear if you only picked one

I was driving the other day, listening to the new Live at the Warfield release from the Garcia Band.

While I wasn’t blown away by a lot of it, there were a lot of great moments. One such moment is “Cats Under The Stars”. When they first go into it, you can hear how stoked the crowd is.

Note that this came on at 3am, when I had about 2 hours left on the road from Charleston to Austin
