in forum: Extra Chill TeamHigh Water has approved: Myself, Kate Bryan, Sarah Grace Sherbondy, and Mikayla DiDonato for media passes (photo for SG and Mikayla). I believe Gardner will be there too. And Clif probably.
I would like to divide and conquer and come up with a plan to hit this festival from all angles for some dope collaborative coverage.
Kate, we discussed how you would write the main review this year, which can still happen if you’re still down, but we can also split up duties to come up with unique ideas...

I’m planning to do some personal commentary, definitely going to focus on my opinion of Noah Kahan’s set as a skeptic/hater/non tik-tocker. Also want to write about Babe Club extensively.
Anyways, the fest is in 11 days so I wanted to get this going. Please do chime in with thoughts or ideas. Mikayla is not in here but I will relay to her.

@steveaycockphoto sent me this video earlier and it really resonated with me. It’s Jack Conte from Patreon (and the band Pomplamoose that blew up on YouTube in 2007) speaking about the evolution of his life, his business, and the internet all together. He lays out a timeline that starts with Web 1.0, in the 90s, and then continues through today.Jack touches upon a lot of the challenges that I’m personally facing as the owner of a digital community/business, and how social media has...

He lays out a timeline that starts with Web 1.0, in the 90s, and then continues through today.Jack touches upon a lot of the challenges that I’m personally facing as the owner of a digital community/business, and how social media has essentially jumped the shark and made it extremely difficult for creatives to reach their audience, specifically in the music industry.
It’s a keynote session from SXSW 2024, which I did not attend, but should have. Long video, but an engaging story, and one that I truly care about. “Building a better version of how art and community can exist on the internet,” he says. Not a straight up Patreon ad, but moreso explaining how his vision aligns with trying to craft a better internet. Jack seems like a kindred spirit.
What do you think? How can we as creators face these challenges? (other than posting on this forum)
in reply to: Mayor Cogswell’s Plan To Combat Homelessnessmaking poverty a crime or basically deporting them is insane. Just build affordable housing and fight for living wages in SC.
If sleeping on the streets is inhumane then you house the people. Making it another city’s problem or imprisoning them is crazy.
recap on Texas Eclipse –
fest got cancelled today and is being compared to fyre fest which is a bit ridiculous. The production itself was one of the best I’ve seen – the music was absolutely top tier on the best sound systems I’ve heard. The attention to detail on their stages and amount of art installed was incredible to see. There was such a variety that took a lot of coordination and years of planning.

I did hear of an avoidable death, that water ran out for 2 hours last night, that bathrooms weren’t maintained and that some agreements the organizers made with artists weren’t made good on. I can’t speak to these since I didn’t see any of it first hand. I can say there was reasonably priced food and that the music, art, yoga, science lineup was well executed.
My guess is the sheriff shut down the festival since they oversold it and were lacking certain safety precautions but then organizers blamed the shutdown on the weather (which was btw fine today).
I personally had a ball, it definitely was not a fyre festival situation – even with a day cancelled, I had a full experience. That being said, I feel for anyone who got shafted and literally hurt by poor planning and there isn’t an excuse for that.
in reply to: Morgan Wallen Arrested on Felony ChargesIt’s crazy how quickly you can ruin your life.. He’s so lucky that he didn’t hit one of those cops.. It would have been all over.

in forum: CharlestonOur newly elected mayor in Charleston, William Cogswell, has detailed his “plan” for Combatting the homelessness problem in Charleston. The options are (1) Going to a “rapid response shelter” (2) Going To Jail (3) A bus ticket out of town. . . He thinks it’s inhumane to sleep outside and is essentially trying to make it illegal to do so.. I’ll post the link to the article but I’m curious what you think about this..
