<p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>This summer, Charleston’s hip-hop and R&B scene proved its mettle, delivering a steady stream of #GxldApproved releases that have solidified the city’s position as a<span class=”Apple-converted-space”> </span>growing hub of versatile sound in its underground hip hop and RnB scene. The decision to hold off on a summertime playlist until the end of July was a wise one, as the season exploded with a flurry of music videos, singles, and full-length albums. The sheer volume of drops and rollouts was impressive, highlighting that the scene is not only growing but also becoming a rich, multi-faceted patchwork of sounds. <p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>The sustained prominence and diversity of hip-hop in a city like Charleston, where it isn’t the biggest draw in entertainment, is crucial. For too long, the local hip-hop scene has been overshadowed by the city’s ‘status quo’ and a lack of dedicated venues. However, this summer’s relentless output proves that the scene is not just surviving—it’s thriving. It’s a movement built on a foundation of independent artists, dedicated producers, and a community that is working to elevate its own. By pushing boundaries and cultivating a sound that is uniquely our own, Charleston’s hip-hop artists are not only creating great music but also ensuring that the city’s cultural landscape is representative of all its voices. The summer of #Gxldapproved releases wasn’t just about new music; it was a statement that Charleston hip-hop is here to stay, unapologetically authentic and a vital part of the city’s artistic identity.</span></p>
