What a combination this video is – Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead with Steve Winwood and his band, Traffic. Jerry is at the end of his rope here, but still brings an unmistakable joy to his playing that was one of the reasons why so many people loved the Grateful Dead, and still do to this day. “Dear Mr. Fantasy” song is of my favorite classic rock songs, and the addition of Jerry Garcia makes it that much better.
This was shot during Traffic’s 1994 tour, which was their first since 1974 and their last one ever, and this performance in particular was featured on The Last Great Traffic Jam DVD. They had a few dates on the final tour in which they opened for the Grateful Dead, and those dates were dubbed Dead & Traffic Jam. Oh, to go back and be at this show would be absolutely kick ass. Enjoy.
