Tom Angst – “I’m Probably Overthinking It” (Video)
Published: April 20, 2018
Greenville’s Tom Angst are one of the most promising young acts in South Carolina right now. I knew pretty much immediately upon hearing their debut single “Inferiority Complex” last summer that they were a band that needed to be on my radar. That thought has only continued to magnify since then, with the release of a beautiful self-titled EP, and subsequently a show opening for Waxahatchee and Ought at The Royal American.
Needless to say, it has been an eventful first year or so in the world of Tom Angst, and I know of a few awesome things happening in the future that will continue that trend. For one, they’ll be playing at The Royal American again on May 9th with Sainseneca (our interview with Saintseneca is coming soon) and Gold Light. There’s something else on the radar that hasn’t been announced yet, but I’m sure when it does many of you will be pretty stoked about it.
Photographer Dietrich Gunther also took an early liking to Tom Angst. According to a recent interview with our friends over at Scene SC, Gunther saw Tom Angst at Pablo in Clemson one night and was blown away by their set. Ever since then, he has been photographing them (and the rest of the Pablo Generation) frequently, and most recently he created the band’s first music video, which was released today. The video features Dietrich’s signature style of messing with exposure to create some unique images that I’m sure you’ve seen if you’ve spent any time following the South Carolina Music scene.
If you haven’t seen Dietrich’s photography, though, I recommend checking out his Instagram here. Pretty great stuff there. Definitely one of the best photographers covering the scene in this state.
The music video for “I’m Probably Overthinking It” contains footage taken both during and between performances, including some footage from Pablo and The Royal American, amongst others. You can watch it below.
