Another Columbia band with an EP out this morning is the experimental electronic pop band The Lovely Few with their newly-released Sad Disco. After debuting the music video for the title track with Scene SC earlier this week, we can now hear what Mike Mewborne and crew have been working on. Where their past releases have all been centered around themes of space, Sad Disco is somewhat of a departure from that. With Sad Disco, The Lovely Few give pop music a shot. It still sounds pretty spaced-out, if you asked me, but it certainly has more of a pop center than their previous releases.
Sad Disco is the first release from The Lovely Few since 2014’s The Geminids. It was recorded with Kenny McWilliams at Archer Avenue Studio, and according to Mewborne, it almost fully brings to life his vision of The Lovely Few as a full band. Sad Disco is the first studio release with the new lineup that includes Kenny McWilliams (gang vocals, bass, keys, guitars) and Joe Stillwell (Drums) of Real Work, along with Phil Windsor (Guitar) and Ben Walker (Bass).
The Lovely Few will celebrate the release of their new EP tonight at New Brookland Tavern along with Real Work and Levvy, who both released EPs this week as well. Joining them will be special guests Ghosts of the Kodiak.
