The High Divers released a new single, “Old Days,” on Friday. It’s the group’s first release since “Already Won,” which dropped in October of 2020.
“Old Days” was recorded during the pre-pandemic days at Battle Tapes in Nashville, Tennessee. Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit) produced the track, and it was mixed by Andy Dixon (Shovels & Rope).
The song has a straightforward, 70’s-rock attitude; it doesn’t tip-toe or go lightly in style or sound. Luke Mitchell croons close into the mic while fast-paced guitar drives the song forward.
Mary Alice Mitchell’s voice join’s Luke’s in the chorus, adding contrast to the lines “Somewhere between / waking and a dream / I thought I saw you coming my way.”
Somewhat nostalgic in theme, the song is at once examining the present and the past. The moment it describes is current, yet feels reminiscent of the excitement of days gone by.
Concept aside, “Old Days” sounds fresh, and it’s the first single out of a few that The High Divers are slated to release ahead of their upcoming full-length album, which will drop in early 2023. Stream “Old Days” below.
