The Final Makeout Reef Show
Published: May 29, 2018
The role that Makeout Reef has played in Charleston’s music scene over the past few years cannot be overstated. Makeout Reef has been a hub rivaling venues like The Royal American, Music Farm, and The Pour House in terms of importance to the local scene. It has served as a much-needed space for Charleston’s DIY music scene to grow and thrive, and has spawned several bands that are integral to today’s version of the Charleston music scene.
That’s why it’s bittersweet to share the news that this Friday, June 1st, iconic Charleston house venue Makeout Reef will host its final show. The time has come for the residents of that little place at *ADDRESS REDACTED* to move on with their lives, and thus move out of the space that has become beloved to so many indie artists and music advocates of all kinds.
The final show at Makeout Reef will feature Lunar Vacation (making their Charleston debut), Platonic Bae, Niecy Blues, Del Sur, and Mr. Rosewater (who will premiere a single here on the morning of the show). It’s a fittingly stacked lineup to close off what has been a memorable chapter in the timeline of Charleston’s music scene.
Bring $5 or more as a donation for the bands. If you need the address, message us or Makeout Reef on any social media outlet, and we’ll point you in the right direction. More info can be found on the Facebook event here.
I don’t want to get too sentimental, but I’m gonna do it anyway. I’ve included below some posters for Makeout Reef shows that have happened over the years. I scoured the internet and found as many as I could, but I’m sure I missed a few. They’re in order from the most recent to the oldest. Which ones were you at?
