The Electic Café & Vinyl to Close on May 27th
    Published: May 14, 2018

Last night The Eclectic Café & Vinyl hit us with some sad (but hopeful) news: the coffee shop and record store hybrid will be closing its doors for good on Sunday, May 27th. The Café first opened in June 2016, and while it has been short-lived, it has made a lasting impression on Charleston’s music scene that will not soon be forgotten.

Located at 132 Spring Street, The Eclectic Café & Vinyl has been a neighborhood hub for intimate musical performances, coffee, craft beer, and of course a great selection of both local and national vinyl records. It has been a relaxing place to watch some local talent play acoustic and stripped-down sets in a small setting, and many Charlestonians, myself included, have thoroughly enjoyed time spent at the Café.

As explained in an open letter on the Eclectic Café website, the owner, who lives in the building, will continue to occupy the space after the closing of the Café.

The glimmer of hope in the closing of Eclectic comes from the news that there will be a new coffee shop opening in the same space, run by people who the owner describes as “significantly more qualified to operate such a shop than myself”. The new coffee shop will be simply named 132 Spring, and plans to feature a similar environment, including the hosting of intimate live musical performances.

Here’s to hoping that 132 Spring steps in to become a beloved neighborhood hub in the same way that the Eclectic Café & Vinyl has over the past two years.

For those of you looking to catch a few last shows at the shop, head over to our Events Calendar to see what they’ve got cooking.
