Soccer Mommy – “royal screw up (demo)” (Video)

On Friday, Soccer Mommy released an EP’s worth of stripped-down demos for songs off her newest album color theory, which was released in February. Also released along with the color theory demos was a video for the “royal screw up” demo. The video was filmed on a camcorder around Nashville by Soccer Mommy’s Sophie Allison.
The “royal screw up” demo is a barebones acoustic recording that showcases Soccer Mommy’s the dissociated depression in its most pure form. If you enjoy the melodic sorrow that Sophie brings to songwriting, then these demos will all be right up your alley. We still get the unbelievable catchiness that she weaves in with her voice, but without the studio embellishments. It’s a nice alternate take on some now-familiar songs to hold us over while the next Soccer Mommy album is presumably in the works.
