She Returns From War have just released their take on the Christmas carol “In The Bleak Midwinter”. This arrangement feels like sitting beside a warm fireplace, in a rocking chair with a steaming cup of hot chocolate (and dash of Jamison). Hunter’s voice carries that cozy air, with help from Camille Rhoden on vocals and keys and J.P. Chapa contributing guitar and “other noises”.
The original version of “In The Bleak Midwinter” is based on a poem by Christina Rossetti, which was published back in January 1872. It was first set to music in 1904 by Gustav Holst, and in 1911 Harold Dark composed his own version of the carol that in 2008 was voted the Best Christmas Carol by a poll of choirmasters taken by the BBC.
