Charleston’s Riley Randall, former frontman of the defunct reggae-infused alt-rock band See Water has just unveiled the first single from his new project, Riley & The Ship. “Sharks in the Water” features contribution from the Little Bird crew, Ben Mossman (bass), Noah Jones (keys), Oleg Terentiev (drums), and James Rubush (guitar), with Little Bird vocalist Jay Hurtt handling most of the sound engineering and production work. It sounds like an evolution of the sound that Riley explored with See Water, dropping the reggae in favor of a stronger alternative rock influence. The Little Bird squad adds a tight arrangement, as to be expected, and the production is clean and crispy.
Riley has written several songs for this project, though none have been recorded yet, but the track ends with a perfect setup for a ripping guitar intro for whatever song will come next in a future album sequence (which we fully encourage him to take advantage of).
