Rapper Ray DeeZy released a new EP, Cloud 9 Climax, last week. The 3-song project was both produced and performed by the artist.
Opener “Leavin’” presents a big, anthemic soundscape . DeeZy comes out swinging, rapping verses with cultural references like “look how Obi-Wan Kenobi did Anakin” and offbeat wordplay, rhyming the previous line with “mannequin.”
The second track, “There She Go (Interlude),” begins by sampling a female vocalist singing lackadaisically. DeeZy repeats “there she go” in an enthusiastic almost-whisper, then begins to describe a woman who lives life on her own terms: “Let’s get it understood / She don’t do it for a man.”
“Yucky,” the final song on the EP, features some electric tones and a smooth, almost R&B background sound. DeeZy’s lyrics explore themes of a sexual nature, with quips like “Some say Hugh Hefner was a pedofile / Shit fucked me up cause I grew up on his lifestyle.”
The EP gives us the hazy meets hype vibe that feels right on target for the start of spring. Stream Cloud 9 Climax by Ray DeeZy below.
