Argot imagine finding freedom on a gambling cruise this morning with the debut of the bsides session for their new song “Riverboat”. The video features a stripped-back performance of the unreleased track, which comes from the new EP they’re currently working on with Steven Walker of SUSTO and Mopheads. The EP contains songs they wrote together during quarantine and also includes the stellar single “Cowboy”, released back in April.
According to Argot’s John Brooker, his lyrics are fairly straightforward here. “Riverboat” is a song about the need to “unwind” and “loosen the pins”, and finding ways to do that however you can, whether it’s healthy or not. The character in this particular song finds his escape through gambling addiction, via a riverboat, and justifies that by saying he can do whatever the hell he wants.
As for the new EP, John explains that working with Steven has helped them come up with some fresh new ideas that have given the music a more layered soundscape, and they’re excited to share the songs as well as play them live. They don’t have a title for the EP yet, but John says they’re heavily workshopping Diarrhea at the Dentist.
