Parker Gispert (of The Whigs) Bringing Debut Solo Album to The Royal American

Parker Gispert of The Whigs has played solo sets at The Royal American several times over the years. The difference with his next performance, coming up on Thursday, January 10th, is the fact that he just released his debut solo album, Sunlight Tonight back in November. Next Thursday’s show will be the first time he’ll be at The Royal American as a solo artist with an official solo release to run with.

Sunlight Tonight is a much more quiet and subdued album than the garage rock tunes you’ll find in The Whigs’ catalog. The album was produced by Emery Dobbins, and features contributions from The Black Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney, former Spacklehorse vocalist Sol Seppy, and Adele bassist Samuel Dixon. It was released on New West imprint Normaltown Records.

You might have seen a few Royal American regulars sporting t-shirts screenprinted with “Do Some Country”. Well, those are Parker Gispert shirts, inspired by the Sunlight Tonight song of the same name. See them in his merch store here.

Joining Parker Gispert at The Royal American on Thursday, January 10th will be Rotoglow’s Andrew Hellier, and Charleston’s Tom Mackell. Listen to Sunlight Tonight below, and check out the music video for “Too Dumb To Love Anyone” below that.
