Palm Palm – “Out on Bail”
    Published: June 26, 2023

Last week, Richmond-based rock band Palm Palm released a boisterous new single called “Out on Bail”. The release was paired with the announcement that Palm Palm’s debut full-length album comes out on September 1st, with several more singles on the way leading up to the album release.

Palm Palm is a project from J. Roddy Walston, who formerly played with J. Roddy Walston and the Business. They formed in 2019 and released their three-track debut EP in August 2021. Charleston locals might have seen their sets at High Water Festival (2022 and 2023), or some of J. Roddy’s numerous pop-up performances at The Royal American, both solo and more recently with the whole band.

“Out on Bail” has all the rebellious attitude that you might expect from a song bearing that title. Over a fuzzed-out, fast-paced beat that keeps moving forward, J. Roddy sings of getting let out on bail unexpectedly. Rather than get his life back on track, he decides, repeatedly, “I’m out on bail, so I might as well / run like hell!”

Palm Palm just completed a Spring tour, and announced a hometown album release celebration at The Broadberry in Richmond, VA. Stay tuned for your next chance to catch them in Charleston, most likely happening before the end of the year.
