    Oukuo – “The Blue City”
    Published: April 27, 2020

Guitarist and producer Thomas Kenney of Doom Flamingo and Terraphonics has started a solo project called Oukuo, and today released the debut single “The Blue City”. The single was released along with an interview with Live & Listen in which Kenney explains the influences and the background for this project, and reveals more about the upcoming Oukuo album, titled Gorilla.

One thing discussed in the interview is Kenney’s love for dance music, which is clearly represented in “The Blue City”. The song has a house beat and a buildup that mirrors festival electronica. Kenney explains that he felt inspired by the massive soundsystems that he’s been able to play through while touring with Umphrey’s McGee spinoff Doom Flamingo, and he composed this with those stages in mind; deep bass and a crowd-moving force. Still, though, Kenney does some dancing himself with his guitar on “The Blue City” and it makes for a really well-rounded listen.

Check it out below, and stay tuned for more from Oukuo coming in the next couple of months.
