As a big Neil Young fan, I’m pretty happy to hear that he’s back on Spotify. I mainly use Spotify for listening to music, so when he was removed, there became a serious lack of Neil in my life.

His letter is pretty funny. He still throws shade even with the return.

I feel like Neil has always been anti establishment. Somehow anti record labels and anti bootleggers at the same time. He exists in this sort of moral purgatory .. Happy to have his music back online, but coming after he sold half of his publishing for $150 million dollars it’s hard to believe that his justifications are pure. Oh, I won’t stream on Spotify because of Joe Rogan, but as soon as Joe Rogan is on other streaming services he justifies his return because all of a sudden it’s not just Spotify. I don’t know – pretty uncommon Neil Young L.. seems like he’s caving for obvious monetary reasons and claiming otherwise.

@qrisg you’re probably right, the old man picked a weird fight with that one. Also, i guess he had hoped that more people would follow suit but that didn’t happen.

Neil’s been anti Spotify for a long time. At one time he tried to start his own high res streaming service but it never took off (Pono)

The motives are not super important to me at the end of the day, because the result is i’ll be able to stream my boy again

I am also a big Neil Young fan and very glad to hear that he’s going back on Spotify. He’s a grumpy old man but he’s written some very beautiful songs.

@tylerclapper kudos to those guys for doing the Lord’s work.

I agree with @qrisg, Neil did this purely for financial reasons.

Y’all would have never noticed that Neil Young wasn’t on Spotify if you had been like a true music fan and bought the records. I’ve proudly worn out three different copies of On the Beach since 1974.

Which, by the way, turns 50 years old this summer.

For the Charleston folks reading, I know they carry at least a few Neil Young records at Monster Music in West Ashley.

I’ve been lucky enough to see Neil in concert 3 times.. Once in CSNY which was insane. He ripped this solo on one of his songs and broke a string.. and I think he just said fuck it I’m gonna break them all…so he kept shredding until there was only one string left and he soloed on that!
