Earlier this week, Mel Washington and Wyatt Durrette released a collaborative tune called “Love Wins”, which made its debut along with a video over at American Songwriter. According to the article over there, this track spawned out of a conversation between Mel and Wyatt, in which they wanted to discuss the current state of the world in a calm way, without yelling at each other or otherwise letting things get too heated. As a result, the song and video are set up in a conversational way, with the verses responding to one another and the camera offering alternating and split views of each artist.
“Love Wins” is a touching song that says no matter how bad things might seem, the way through is to act with love instead of fear. Naturally this is a difficult thing to do, because the gut reaction to injustice, and especially racial injustice, is to become angry and to react with anger and more hatred. This song is a reminder to everybody that we’re all probably feeling some similar emotions of fear and unrest. It’s always good to know you’re not alone, and to remember that “Love Wins” and heals all.
