Marcus Amaker to Celebrate New Book with Visual Poetry: a Release Party at Charleston Music Hall
    Published: April 3, 2023

At Extra Chill, we love the opportunity to shout-out fellow creatives in the writing space, so we’re excited to spread the word about Visual Poetry, a release party celebrating Hold What Makes You Whole, the 10th book by former (and first-ever) poet laureate of Charleston Marcus Amaker. The event is this Tuesday, April 4th at the Charleston Music Hall.

“I’m overjoyed to share these poems with you because they were birthed from an intense period of self care,” Amaker said of the new body of work on an Post announcing the publication of Hold What Makes You Whole

Visual Poetry is on track to be a significant gathering of local artists across diverse sectors and will feature experimental music, spoken word poetry, and film.

Fellow poet Jammie Huynh will be sharing her talent with words, as will Goose Creek High School poets Emerson Finch Muck, Alyssa Ruth-Cole, and I.R. Kingsley. Musicians Niecy Blues and CONCEPT RXCH will also perform.

Doors for Visual Poetry will open at 6pm, and the event starts at 7pm. Tickets are $15 or $25: if you purchase the latter, you’ll also receive a free copy of Hold What Makes You Whole.
