Leone Releases Sophomore EP, Private Life

Leone released his sophomore EP, Private Life, on Friday. The Rock Hill-based artist is well known for his addictive funk stylings, but this record shows him experimenting with a darker synth-wave sound.
The EP is a five-song project that opens with “Chemical Reaction,” a track that includes a quote by Prince: “People speculate on your personal life all the time…it’s important to keep my private life private.” It’s a musing that sets the tone, thematically, for the entire EP.
Tracks “2 Sharp” and “Everything” were both previously released as singles, and they give the listeners a chance to groove. The 80s synth inspiration is most evident, instrumentally, on “Too Close.” “MIMS,” the album’s closer, is sensual, harkening back to classic R&B.
