Hip-hop artist Jah Jr. released a new EP, The Overweight Lover, last week. The 5-song project is his first release since the 2021 single “Clap (Slow It Down),” which we reviewed here on Extra Chill.
The Overweight Lover shows Jah Jr. flexing is sensual side — smooth beats and sexual lyrics abound. The title track opens with the line “She came to the door in a trench coat / Already knew what I was in for,” a relatively tame turn of phrase compared to what follows.
According to his Instagram, Jah Jr. was inspired by several different concepts when creating TheOverweight Lover, the first being women. That’s clear throughout each track.
Next, Jah Jr. dedicated the album to “big brothers” everywhere, and mentioned that he was particularly attempting to pay homage to rapper Heavy D. The third piece of inspiration for this EP was Jah Jr.’s own “grown” and “nasty” side. We love to see it.
