Hotel Hugo released a new single, “Change,” earlier this month. It’s the fourth and final track in a string of releases the band crafted back in 2021, and it has the most decidedly energetic, rock and roll attitude of the band’s previous singles.
Thumping percussion and playful vocals create an upbeat feeling in “Change.” The group isn’t afraid to lean into a more raw, frenetic sound, which suits them well.
The lyrics pair the freewheeling instrumentation with a grounding, contented outlook, shown in lines like “Tonight there’s not a place I’d rather be” and “If it’s up to me I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
After the second chorus, the guitar and drums work together to build up to a big jam, and it’s easy to imagine that the track is a blast at a live show.
“The song is about settling down and also finding the joy in day-to-day life. This is especially timely of a song for me to put out, because my wife and I are expecting our first kid this summer,” said singer Garrett Williams.
Hotel Hugo went back to the studio to work on a new album earlier this month and finished out April with a tour that included a stop at Royal American over the weekend.
