Athens, Georgia-based Hotel Fiction, a duo composed of vocalist/pianist Jade Long and guitarist Jessica Thompson, dropped a new track, “I Like You Around,” on Friday. It’s the band’s final single before the release of their upcoming EP, Enjoy Your Stay, on October 28th.
“I Like You Around” is an acoustic guitar tune with an indie-pop sensibility. The opening line, “Take it easy on me now / Cause I’m going to die young / 27 club,” sets up a sort of sincere-meets-ironic tone that will continue throughout the track.
A drum beat picks up and more background sound builds as the song continues, but it maintains an easy pace. “The light inside your eyes / Is the only thing I like,” Long smolders.
More frantic noise builds at the end of the song, as both Long and Thompson sing “I want to know you for the rest of my life” and close out the tune with some campy “fa la las” and frenetic guitar and drums.
You can catch Hotel Fiction live in Charleston right after the release of Enjoy Your Stay at BoogieMan Festival at The Royal American on October 29th. In the meantime, stream “I Like You Around” below.
