Grace Joyner dropped a new single, “Vampira,” on Friday. It’s the artist’s first release since her album Settle Inwas released in 2020.
“Vampira” is a moody track that is meant to be, according to a post on Joyner’s Instagram post about the release, a “love letter to the different. It’s a message for those of us who have been dismissed by someone we love.”
Joyner’s voice throughout the song is ethereal yet full, like the sound of a choir echoing against the walls of an old church. “And although you asked him to the cemetery / he won’t come join you” and “Don’t try any harder,” she warns. A steady pop beat grounds the song.
Don’t miss out on the chance to hear Grace Joyner live with a full band for the first time in two years on Saturday, February 5 at Royal American with Jack Fortune, Argot, and Admiral Radio. In the meantime, you can stream “Vampira” below.
