On Friday morning, Scene SC announced on Facebook that they had filmed and were preparing to release a bunch of new live sessions from South Carolina artists in 2019. This morning, they delivered the goods with the first Scene SC live session of the year: Gardeners performing “Bug” live at The Courtroom in Rock Hill, SC.
“Bug” comes from Gardener’s 2018 debut Along The Heather, which weighed in at number 14 on our Best South Carolina Albums of 2018 list. I know I’ve said this a few times already, but for anyone who hasn’t quite hopped on board the Gardeners train yet: this is a good new band and they deserve your attention.
According to the release article on Scene SC, this session, along with the upcoming sessions from Motel Glory, GASP, and To Be Sure, were all recorded on a Sunday afternoon back in September, with John Nipe handling the mix. John Nipe is also the one who worked with Gardeners on Along The Heather, as well as with GASP on A Violet Maze of Dreams, and more. The rest of the sessions are reportedly coming soon, in addition to sessions featuring SUSTO, Babe Club, Cayla Fralick, Watson Village, Gold Light, and Emperor X.
This weekend in Rock Hill marks the 3rd Annual Dumb Sweater Fest at The Courtroom. The two-day event (Friday + Saturday) will feature performances from 12 Rock Hill and York County bands, as well as a local artist’s market. If you’re in the area, it’s a great opportunity to check out some of the local talent. Gardeners will close out the event with a performance at 11:30pm on Saturday night. Facebook event is here.
Who knows, you might even see a few members of the Extra Chill team in the audience…
