Extra Chill Fest Artist Profile: Niecy Blues
Published: August 27, 2018
Originally from a small town in Oklahoma, Janise Robinson, or Niecy Blues, later moved to South Carolina and studied musical theatre at Anderson University. Now, she resides in Columbia and makes beautiful R&B music with a talented team of people including producer Contour and backing band ET Anderson.
The first EP from Niecy Blues is called Opaque, and was released in 2015. According to an interview that Niecy did with 9 to 5 Magazine, that EP is far from the mindset that she finds herself in today, and after releasing it she decided to wait until she was able to discover herself before releasing another project.
Not long afterward, Niecy met Khari Lucas (aka Contour) at a Charleston Hype showcase and the two started to collaborate on what has become the trippy R&B sound that we’ve come to love from her. Beginning with the Soundcloud release of “Cut Your Losses”, and continuing with the multiplatform release of “Ways”, we have been given a taste of what’s to come from the Niecy Blues and Contour collaboration, and we can’t get enough of it.
“Ways” was chosen by the Post & Courier’s music podcast, The Fringe, as the best track of 2017, and was later given the music video treatment by dUMB Film. The “Ways” video adds a stunning visual to the already-stunning “Ways”, and is probably our favorite South Carolina music video in the past few years.
We can’t wait to see what Niecy Blues has in store for Extra Chill Fest. Get familiar with her music below, and get tickets to Extra Chill Fest here.
