Elliott Cohn – “Workin’ For a Livin’”
    Published: May 15, 2023

Local country musician Elliott Cohn released his debut single, “Workin’ For a Livin,’” on Friday. The track is a fresh take on classic country that laments the drudgery of working your life away.

Cohn’s vocals are warm with a gentle twang as he sings of our troubling economic situation, a complaint that will resonate with almost any listener: “I been workin like a dog / All darn day / Inflation is up  / But my pay’s the same / This workin’ for a livin’ doesn’t feel like livin’ to me.”

“Workin’ For a Livin’” features upbeat percussion and a jangly guitar, and the vocals echo a bit, as if Cohn’s performing in a dance hall.

While mostly focused on modern work-life struggles, Cohn also sprinkles a little outlaw spirit into the track, detailing a situation in which he got pulled over but was ultimately released, as the cops didn’t find the moonshine hidden under his seat.

Along with compelling narrative storytelling, Cohn’s lyricism is clever, with lines like  “I earn my rent with the calluses on my hands.”

“Workin’ For a Livin’” was recorded with Matt Zutell at Coast Records.

We can’t wait to hear what Cohn comes up with next. Stream the new track below.
