When he’s not playing guitar and recording with SUSTO or Human Resources, Charleston’s Dries Vandenberg dabbles in other creative projects including photography, videography, and in more recent times production work. Today he adds a solo recording project to his repertoire with the release of the bubbly new single “All I Got”, under the project name dk yama. This project has been in the works for a few years now, with roots in Dries’ longtime hobby of experimenting with guitar effects and pedals to find interesting tones. He recently acquired a studio space of his own in town which naturally helped him with this hobby, and “All I Got” is our first taste of what he’s been working on.
“All I Got” is a lighthearted pop song gleaming with hope for another chance in a relationship that you screwed up. The arrangement presents a hopeful and positive energy, while the lyrics suggest a hint of desperation and of trying your best to remain positive. The song is catchy, sure, but the contrast between lyrics and arrangement is what makes it interesting.
