Last week, Charleston rapper, DJ, and comedian DJ DollaMenu dropped the music video for his recent track “Downtown”, first released on his Pandemic EP back in June. The video was filmed in downtown Charleston at what appears to be the nightclub Mynt, and features a pretty wild party. I’ll just go ahead and assume and declare that this party happened pre-Pandemic, whether or not that’s actually true.
Either way, we first found out about DJ DollaMenu way back in the early-ish days of Extra Chill, in January 2018, when he told us that he writes most of his music while pooping. He was based in Aiken back then, but he’s since moved to Charleston and found himself a much wider audience, as well as developed quite a bit creatively. His music has evolved both from a production standpoint and from a depth standpoint. The songs are still funny, but they don’t sound like straight-up comedy songs anymore, they sound like fun rap or club songs with at-times sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, that still slap.
