Charleston-based rapper, DJ, and comedian DJ DollaMenu is back in action with “AOD,” the first single he’s released since his most recent album, Care Package, dropped earlier this year. The new track features his signature irreverent, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, but they’re slightly less on-the-nose than some of his earlier songs.
It begins with a techy beat and a deep, repetitive voice bellows in between the lines. “AOD” is study in dualities: it’s hype but also mellow, light-hearted yet memorable. The track is peppered with clever lyrics, many of them food-based, but my favorite is “they gone hate no matter what / so why stress? / you can’t offend someone / you can’t out-dress.”
DJ DollaMenu has emerged as a staple of the Charleston scene. Catch him rapping and spinning at all of the clubs downtown, check out his antics on TikTok, and stay tuned for more new music.
